Background: Primary school students struggling with mental health are less likely than high school students to access mental health care, due to barriers such as mental health stigma and low mental health literacy among children and parents. The near universal reach of schools offers a potential avenue to increase access to mental health care through early identification. The potential risks of this approach also need to be understood.

Development and psychometric evaluation of the Brief Parenting Questionnaire.

Background: There is a paucity of brief self-report parenting measures validated for use in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We developed the Brief Parenting Questionnaire (BPQ), a 24-item self-report measure for use with parents of children ages 3-12.

Objective: We describe the development and evaluation of the psychometric properties of the BPQ, which was designed to include two subscales: warm and responsive parenting (WRP) and harsh parenting (HP).

The moderating effects of nurses' characteristics on the perceptions and practices of family-centered care for chronically ill children and their families in Saudi Arabia.

Background/purpose: Nurses play a vital role in providing effective family-centered care (FCC) to enhance the quality of healthcare for children with chronic illnesses and increase family satisfaction. This study aimed to investigate nurses' perceptions and practices of FCC for children with chronic illnesses, and how nursing characteristics influence this relationship.

Method: This multicenter cross-sectional study involved a convenience sample of 405 nurses, each with at least six months of experience caring for chronically ill children, infants, and toddlers in Saudi Arabia.

The impact of digital literacy in enhancing individuals' health in China.

Background: Health is the cornerstone of individual well-being and a vital factor in socioeconomic development. In an increasingly digitalized world, digital literacy has emerged as one of the indispensable abilities, which not only pertains to an individual's capacity to acquire, analyze, evaluate, and utilize information but also profoundly influences their health behaviours, health decisions, and overall well-being. This paper uses the 2020 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) data to explore digital literacy's impact on individuals' health.

Sexual dysfunction and quality of life across age groups in multiple sclerosis patients: a prospective cross-sectional analysis.

Introduction: As the most frequent chronic neurological disorder in young adults, Multiple sclerosis (MS) significantly affects neurological function, particularly the autonomic nervous system. While the physical symptoms are visible, MS also causes hidden effects like sexual dysfunction. Research indicates that sexual disorders are more prevalent in MS patients compared to other neurological conditions and are approximately five times more common than in the general population.

Background: Recurrent early pregnancy loss [rEPL] is a traumatic experience, marked by feelings such as grief and depression, and often anxiety. Despite this, the psychological consequences of rEPL are often overlooked, particularly when considering future reproductive health or approaching subsequent pregnancies. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic led to significant reconfiguration of maternity care and a negative impact on the perinatal experience, but the specific impact on women's experience of rEPL has yet to be explored.

Solving unknown primary cancer with earlier diagnosis - the SUPER-ED trial: study protocol for a stepped-wedge cluster randomised controlled trial to support earlier diagnosis for people presenting with malignancy of undefined primary origin.

Background: People with malignancy of undefined primary origin (MUO) have a poor prognosis and may undergo a protracted diagnostic workup causing patient distress and high cancer related costs. Not having a primary diagnosis limits timely site-specific treatment and access to precision medicine. There is a need to improve the diagnostic process, and healthcare delivery and support for these patients.

From relaxed beliefs under psychedelics (REBUS) to revised beliefs after psychedelics (REBAS).

The Relaxed Beliefs Under pSychedelics (REBUS) model proposes that serotonergic psychedelics decrease the precision weighting of neurobiologically-encoded beliefs. We conducted a preliminary examination of two psychological assumptions of REBUS: (a) psychedelics foster acute relaxation and post-acute revision of confidence in mental-health-relevant beliefs; which (b) facilitate positive therapeutic outcomes and are associated with the entropy of EEG signals. Healthy individuals (N = 11) were administered 1 mg and 25 mg psilocybin 4-weeks apart.

Prevalence of Moral Injury in Nationally Representative Samples of Combat Veterans, Healthcare Workers, and First Responders.

Background: Moral injury affects a variety of populations who make ethically complex decisions involving their own and others' well-being, including combat veterans, healthcare workers, and first responders. Yet little is known about occupational differences in the prevalence of morally injurious exposures and outcomes in nationally representative samples of such populations.

Objective: To examine prevalence of potentially morally injurious event (PMIE) exposure and clinically meaningful moral injury in three high-risk groups.

Bridging Gaps: Enhancing Sleep and Health Disparities in Latino Families with Young Adults with Autism Using a Culturally Adapted Intervention.

The present study examined the effects of a culturally adapted intervention, ¡Iniciando! la Adultez, on sleep and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Latino young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their Spanish-speaking parents. The intervention targeted the transition to adulthood, a period associated with increased challenges in sleep and HRQoL, particularly for underserved Latino populations. Participants included 26 young adults and 38 parents who completed assessments at baseline and post-treatment.

Implementation Determinants of PrEP and Behavioral Health Treatment Referral among HIV Test Counselors.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), an effective biomedical prevention intervention, is not sufficiently reaching populations experiencing high HIV incidence. Behavioral health (BH) treatment addressing mental health and substance use similarly requires increased reach to HIV-affected populations. HIV testing is an opportunity to refer individuals to PrEP and BH treatment.

Investigate physiological and psychological responses to environment scenes, elements and components in different urban settings.

Research has proved a close relationship between environments and physiological as well as psychological responses. However, existing research based on neuroscience experiments demonstrated a clear dichotomy between natural and built environments in the selection of exposure settings. There is very limited research analyzing and comparing the effects of different urban environments on individual psychological health.

Is there a mental health diagnostic crisis in primary care? Current research practices in global mental health cannot answer that question.

In low- and middle-income countries, fewer than 1 in 10 people with mental health conditions are estimated to be accurately diagnosed in primary care. This is despite more than 90 countries providing mental health training for primary healthcare workers in the past two decades. The lack of accurate diagnoses is a major bottleneck to reducing the global mental health treatment gap.

Crime Victim Compensation: We Can Do Better for Our Children.

Background: Interpersonal injury disproportionately impacts marginalized communities. Crime Victim Compensation (CVC) was developed in Canada and the United States to help individuals and their families following violent injury. In Illinois, the CVC program offers up to $27,000 per claim to assist with mental health, relocation, and burial expenses.

K1 channels enable myelinated axons to transmit spikes reliably without spiking ectopically.

Action potentials (spikes) are regenerated at each node of Ranvier during saltatory transmission along a myelinated axon. The high density of voltage-gated sodium channels required by nodes to reliably transmit spikes increases the risk of ectopic spike generation in the axon. Here we show that ectopic spiking is avoided because K1 channels prevent nodes from responding to slow depolarization; instead, axons respond selectively to rapid depolarization because K1 channels implement a high-pass filter.

Lifestyle interventions for depression in primary care: a qualitative study.

Background: In individuals with depression a vicious circle tends to occur in which depressive symptoms cause an unhealthy lifestyle, which reversibly causes an increase in depressive symptoms; both of which are associated with a decreased life expectancy. A potential way to break this circle entails a multicomponent lifestyle intervention (MLI).

Aim: Exploring the barriers and facilitators for an MLI in patients with depressive symptoms from the perspective of general practitioners (GP), chronic disease practice nurses (CD-PN), mental health nurses (MHN), lifestyle coaches (LC) and patients (PT).

The obstetrics and mental health care fields have significant crossover. Women with unintended, undesired, or medically complex pregnancies are at greater risk of adverse mental health outcomes, which have the capacity to create long-lasting and intergenerational ripple effects within their larger family unit. Given the frequency with which women seek pregnancy terminations, the numerous factors that influence care accessibility, and the serious repercussions that stem from insufficient use of evidence-based care surrounding pregnancy termination, women are at risk of experiencing a range of mental health outcomes based on their experiences around pregnancy termination.

Use of Telehealth as an Adjunct to Conventional Mental Health Care.

The lack of resources for mental health diagnosis and treatment contributes greatly to maternal morbidity and mortality. Social and cultural barriers, along with the impact of social determinants of health create burdens that prevent mothers from accessing care and treatment. Telehealth care improves access and is widely accepted by clinicians, patients, and their families by reducing need for in person visits, providing privacy, and decreasing costs.

Mental Well-being in Menopause.

The hormonal changes that accompany the transition to menopause are disruptive to most women, and for some, mental health maybe adversely affected. Depressive symptoms and major depression are the best-studied conditions in association with menopause, but anxiety, executive function, and comorbid pre-existing psychiatric conditions all influence the symptomatology that women will experience during this phase of their lives. The epidemiology, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment guidelines for perimenopausal patients are discussed.

Preventable Maternal Mortality -Diagnosis and Management of Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders.

Maternal mortality has increased over past decades. The majority of deaths are secondary to mental health and substance use disorders, with over 80% being preventable. Screening for mental health should be offered to all pregnant women and should be administered through all trimesters and postpartum.

Mental Health Aspects of Genetic Screening and Testing in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Availability of genetic testing and screening options has advanced significantly, and increasingly becoming included in obstetric (OB) and gynecologic practices. Advanced technologies have caused genetic screening to become more complex. Genetic screening is recommended for all pregnant patients and is routinely offered in OBs and gynecology.

The Impact of Stillbirth on Maternal Wellbeing.

Several parents globally face stillbirth, which takes a toll on their mental health and well-being. We would like to discuss the differences between grief and mental health and ways care must be tailored toward the specific needs of the bereaved. Recent research shows that there is a sense of personal responsibility that accompanies stillbirth and pregnancy loss.
