We describe a patient who underwent thoracic radiation therapy for biopsy-proven pulmonary spindle cell sarcoma in the left lower lobe, 15 months after birth. The role of cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and T helper cells (Th) in controlling CMV infection, as detected by antigenemia assay and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in blood leukocytes, and CMV disease was investigated in 20 renal transplant recipients. The extracellular region of the receptors can be released by proteolytic cleavage and form soluble TNF-binding proteins, TNF-R55-BP and TNF-R75-BP, respectively. The phorbol ester PMA, the chemotactic peptide FMLP, and TNF were all found to induce release of TNF-R55-BP and TNF-R75-BP from neutrophils in suspension in a time- and dose-dependent manner as measured by ELISA.
