Background: Patients who incur an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and undergo ACL reconstruction (ACLR) have the intention of returning to sports at their pre-injury level; however, many do not return to the pre-injury level. This study aims to investigate the common factors that hinder patients from resuming sports activities following ACLR and to assess how these barriers impact their ability to return to sports. We hypothesized that patients' psychological factors, including fear of reinjury, would significantly influence their decision to return to sport after ACL reconstruction.

Comparative dissection of transcriptional landscapes of human iPSC-NK differentiation and NK cell development.

Life Med

August 2024

The Bone Marrow Transplantation Center of The First Affiliated Hospital &Liangzhu Laboratory, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou 310012, China.

Clinical and preclinical research has demonstrated that iPSC-derived NK (iNK) cells have a high therapeutic potential, yet poor understanding of the detailed process of their differentiation and their counterpart cell development has hindered therapeutic iNK cell production and engineering. Here we dissect the crucial differentiation of both fetal liver NK cells and iNK cells to enable the rational design of advanced iNK production protocols. We use a comparative analysis of single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) to pinpoint key factors lacking in the induced setting which we hypothesized would hinder iNK differentiation and/ or functionality.

Finerenone: Will It Be a Game-changer?

Card Fail Rev

December 2024

Department of Nephrology and Renal Transplant Medicine, Max Super Speciality Hospital Saket, New Delhi, India.

Heart failure (HF) is a major contributor to hospitalisations and accounts for 7% of cardiovascular-related deaths, with patients who have chronic kidney disease and type 2 diabetes at heightened risk. Existing treatment guidelines inadequately address these comorbidities. Steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) are commonly used in HF with reduced ejection fraction but pose risks, such as hyperkalaemia and acute kidney injury.

Telocytes in inflammatory bowel diseases: contributions to pathology and therapeutic potentials.

Front Cell Dev Biol

January 2025

Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine, Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, PA, United States.

Telocytes, a novel mesenchymal cell population, are characterized by their distinctive long and slender projections known as telopodes and have garnered significant interest since their formal introduction to the literature in 2010. These cells have been identified in various tissues, including the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, where they are suggested to play important roles in maintaining structural integrity, immune modulation, and barrier function. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), which include Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), are characterized by chronic inflammation and fibrosis.

Department of Pneumology, Institut Clinic del Tórax, Hospital Clinic of Barcelona - Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), University of Barcelona - SGR 911- Ciber de Enfermedades Respiratorias (Ciberes), Barcelona, Spain.

Aminoglycosides are concentration-dependent antibiotics exerting a bactericidal effect when concentrations at the site of infection are equal to or greater than 5 times the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC). When administered intravenously, they exhibit poor lung penetration and high systemic renal and ototoxicity, imposing to restrict their administration to 5 days. Experimental studies conducted in anesthetized and mechanically ventilated sheep and pigs provide evidence that high doses of nebulized aminoglycosides induce a rapid and potent bacterial killing in the infected lung parenchyma.
