Introduction: Fungal co-infections are considered an important complication in hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV-2 that can be attributed to disease aggravation, increased mortality, and poor outcomes. This study was conducted to determine the species distribution and antifungal susceptibility patterns of Candida isolates from hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Shiraz, Iran, in addition to associated risk factors and outcomes of co-infections with Candida species.
Materials And Methods: In this single-center study, a total of 106 hospitalized COVID-19 patients were evaluated for clinical characteristics and outcomes.

Tuberculosis is a re-emerging infectious disease that causes high morbidity and mortality worldwide and remains a major health threat in many parts of the world. With the increase in the incidence of HIV-positive/AIDS patients and immunocompromised individuals, accurate and timely diagnosis of latent TB (LTB) and active TB (ATB) has gained great importance. The aim of this study was to investigate the rationale lying behind interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) requests for patients applying to various clinics of a tertiary care hospital.

Background: Assessment of the quality of life (QoL) among healthcare workers (HCWs) is vital for better healthcare and is an essential indicator for competent health service delivery. Since the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic strike, the frontline position of HCWs subjected them to tremendous mental and psychological burden with a high risk of virus acquisition.
Aim: This study evaluated the QoL and its influencing factors among HCWs residing in the Arab countries.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) booster doses decrease infection transmission and disease severity. This study aimed to assess the acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine booster doses in low, middle, and high-income countries of the East Mediterranean Region (EMR) and its determinants using the health belief model (HBM). In addition, we aimed to identify the causes of booster dose rejection and the main source of information about vaccination.

Background: Most severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected individuals are asymptomatic or only exhibit mild disease. In about 10% of cases, the infection leads to hypoxemic pneumonia, although it is much more rare in children.
Objective: We evaluated 31 young patients aged 0.

Background: Candida auris is an emerging, potentially multidrug-resistant pathogen that exhibits clade-specific resistance to fluconazole and also develops resistance to echinocandins and amphotericin B easily. This study analysed 49 C auris isolates for alterations in hotspot-1 and hotspot-2 of FKS1 for the detection of mutations conferring reduced susceptibility to echinocandins.
Methods: C auris isolates (n = 49) obtained from 18 immunocompromised patients during June 2016-December 2018 were analysed.

Objective: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Human Herpes virus 6 (HHV-6) are believed to involve in multiple sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis. Natural killer (NK) and CD8 T cells have essential roles in handling viral infections and their phenotypic and functional properties may be influenced following exposure to viral infections. Here, we investigated the association of NK and CD8 T cells subpopulations frequency with EBV and HHV-6 viral load in MS patients.

Background: Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) has high mortality in kidney transplant recipients (KTR), and vaccination against severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is vital for this population. Although the humoral response to messenger RNA vaccines was shown to be impaired in KTR, there is a lack of data regarding the antibody response to inactivated vaccines. We investigated the antibody response to two consequent doses of the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CoronaVac; Sinovac Biotech, China).

Human T-lymphotropic virus-I/II (HTLV-I/II) and human immun viruses (HIVs), that have similar genomic characteristics also share the same transmission routes and infect T lymphocytes. Regarding this epidemiological similarity, HIV and HTLV infections can be seen together. HIV and HTLV-I/II coinfection occurs with variable frequencies in different populations and geographic regions.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus has been rapidly spreading globally since December 2019, triggering a pandemic, soon after its emergence. While Iran was among the first countries confronted with rapid spread of virus in February 2020, no real-time SARS-CoV-2 whole-genome tracking in early phase of outbreak was performed in the country. To address this issue, we provided 50 whole-genome sequences of viral isolates ascertained from different geographical locations in Iran during March-July 2020.

Bacterial infection can negatively affect different parts of the male genital tract and subsequently cause impaired spermatogenesis and male fertility. However, most of the previous studies have focused on the infected organs of the male genital tract and there are not many studies that investigated the direct effect of bacteria on sperm and their mechanism of action. Interestingly, bacteria can induce different damages on sperm cells such as DNA fragmentation, cell membrane peroxidation, and acrosome impairment.
