The need for new antibiotics is increasing due to their overuse, and antibiotic resistance has become one of the major threats worldwide to public health, food safety, and clinical treatment. In this study, we describe an actinobacterial isolate, YX44, which belongs to the genus . This was isolated from a drinking pipe located in Osaka, Japan, and has the ability to inhibit Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and various fungi.

Disulfiram is a promising repurposed drug that, combining with radiation and chemotherapy, exhibits effective anticancer activities in several preclinical models. The cellular metabolites of disulfiram have been established, however, the intracellular targets of disulfiram remain largely unexplored. We have previously reported that disulfiram suppresses the coronaviral papain-like proteases through attacking their zinc-finger domains, suggesting an inhibitory function potentially on other proteases with similar catalytic structures.

Genotoxic insult causes nuclear and mitochondrial DNA damages with macroautophagy/autophagy induction. The role of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) damage in the requirement of autophagy for nuclear DNA (nDNA) stability is unclear.
