Caplacizumab reduces the need for therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) during treatment for thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), associates with fewer required TPE, and shortens hospital stay. It is therefore recommended as part of standard care. However, the treatment effects on hemostasis may complicate initial management.

Background We recently showed that, in patients with heart failure, lower high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentration was a strong predictor of death or hospitalization for heart failure. In a follow-up study, we suggested that this association could be partly explained by HDL proteome composition. However, whether the emerging concept of HDL function contributes to the prognosis of patients with heart failure has not been addressed.

The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the peripheral opioid antagonist methylnaltrexone could improve pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of orally administered ticagrelor in patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction receiving morphine. Methods and Results The MOVEMENT (Methylnaltrexone to Improve Platelet Inhibition of Ticagrelor in Morphine-Treated Patients With ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction) trial was a multicenter, prospective, randomized, controlled trial in patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction treated with morphine and ticagrelor.

Background In randomized trials (SHARP [Study of Heart and Renal Protection], IMPROVE -IT [Improved Reduction of Outcomes: Vytorin Efficacy International Trial]), combination of statin and ezetimibe resulted in additional reduction of cardiovascular events. The reduction was greater in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2 DM ), where elevated remnant cholesterol and high cardiovascular disease risk is characteristic. To evaluate possible causes behind these results, 40 patients eligible for cholecystectomy, randomized to simvastatin, ezetimibe, combined treatment (simvastatin+ezetimibe), or placebo treatment during 4 weeks before surgery, were studied.

Methods: To explore the importance of cholesterol homeostasis for asthma, we investigated the contribution of LXR activity in an ovalbumin- and a house dust mite-driven eosinophilic asthma mouse model.
