Midkine: A Cancer Biomarker Candidate and Innovative Therapeutic Approaches.

Midkine (MDK) is a protein that contributes to both physiological and pathological processes. Several studies provide insight into the different roles of MDK in development, tissue repair, neural plasticity, and health and disease processes. This research further examined how MDK contributed to conditions, including neurological diseases, inflammation, and ischaemia.

Effects of Probiotic Bacteria on Central Neuronal Activation in Experimental Colitis.

Background: Brain-gut axis dysregulation is observed in inflammatory bowel disease. However, the effect of altered gut flora on neuro- immunomodulation and its role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease are unknown. The aims of this study are to determine (i) whether colitis modifies the expression of c-fos, a marker of general neuronal activation in the brain and (ii) whether this activation could be modulated by probiotic bacteria.

Cordycepin prevents the esophageal stricture formation in the alkali-burn rat model by exerting anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects.

Purpose: To investigate the efficacy of cordycepin, an adenosine analogue, on prevention of esophageal damage and stricture formation due to esophageal caustic burns in rat model comparing with prednisolone.

Methods: Caustic esophageal burn was introduced by 37.5% of NaOH to distal esophagus.
