Article Synopsis
  • * The LOOP study involved 6,004 AF-naïve individuals aged 70-90 with stroke risk factors, comparing outcomes of those monitored with an implantable loop recorder to usual care, finding that a higher ABC-stroke score significantly indicated increased stroke risk.
  • * However, results showed that the ABC-stroke score did not effectively identify which individuals would benefit from AF screening or preventive treatment, suggesting the need for further investigation into its clinical utility.

Background: Patients with spinal pain often exhibit movement limitations and altered motor control, which can be challenging to measure accurately in clinical practice. Inertial measurement sensors present a promising new opportunity to develop valid, low-cost, and easy-to-use methods for assessing and monitoring spinal motion in a clinical setting.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the agreement of an inertial sensor and a 3D camera system for assessing the range of motion (ROM) and quality of movement (QOM) in head and trunk single-plane movements.

Background: Endometriosis is a condition that worldwide affects 10% of all women of childbearing age. Despite the large prevalence, it takes 4-11 years from the first onset of symptoms until the time of diagnosis, and the majority experience symptoms debut in adolescence. Endometriosis affects women's lives both physically, psychologically, socially and a lack of recognition from society causes the pain the women experience to be neglected, hidden and normalised.

Tissue engineering (TE) is currently considered a cutting-edge discipline that offers the potential for developing treatments for health conditions that negatively affect the quality of life. This interdisciplinary field typically involves the combination of cells, scaffolds, and appropriate induction factors for the regeneration and repair of damaged tissue. Cell fate decisions, such as survival, proliferation, or differentiation, critically depend on various biochemical and biophysical factors provided by the extracellular environment during developmental, physiological, and pathological processes.

Article Synopsis
  • * In a study of 305 COVID-19 patients, lower GWI was found in patients with high levels of cardiac biomarkers, such as troponin and NT-proBNP, indicating worse cardiac function and a higher need for oxygen.
  • * GWI was linked to an increased risk of death among patients, but it did not provide additional predictive value beyond existing clinical parameters like troponin and NT-proBNP levels.

Sensory feedback through spinal interneurons contributes to plantar flexor muscle activity during walking, but it is unknown whether this is also the case during nonlocomotor movements. Here, we explored the effect of temporary reduction of sensory feedback to ankle plantar flexors during voluntary contraction in sitting subjects. Thirteen healthy adults (mean age 32 yr) were seated with the right leg attached to a foot plate which could be moved in dorsi- or plantarflexion direction by a computer-controlled motor.

Background It remains challenging to identify patients at risk of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). We aimed to examine health care contacts in patients before OHCA compared with the general population that did not experience an OHCA. Methods and Results Patients with OHCA with a presumed cardiac cause were identified from the Danish Cardiac Arrest Registry (2001-2014) and their health care contacts (general practitioner [GP]/hospital) were examined up to 1 year before OHCA.

Background: Accidental falls are common among community-dwellers, probably due to the level of physical activity and impaired postural stability. Today, fall risk prediction tools' discriminative validity are only moderate. In order to increase the accuracy, multiple variables such as highly validated objective field measurements of physical activity and impaired postural stability should be adressed in order to predict falls.

Given their durability and long-term stability, self-healable hydrogels have, in the past few years, emerged as promising replacements for the many brittle hydrogels currently being used in preclinical or clinical trials. To this end, the incompatibility between hydrogel toughness and rapid self-healing remains unaddressed, and therefore most of the self-healable hydrogels still face serious challenges within the dynamic and mechanically demanding environment of human organs/tissues. Furthermore, depending on the target tissue, the self-healing hydrogels must comply with a wide range of properties including electrical, biological, and mechanical.

We describe the model and implementation of the hierarchical hybrid method for controlling of the lower-arm (pronation/supination and elbow flexion/extension) in humans with disabilities. The control follows the strategy found in ablebodied humans where the movement is planned based on the task and the most distal part of the arm; yet, the command starts from the most proximal segment. The controller uses a black box of the movement and relies on temporal and spatial synergies.
