Objective: The primary aims of the study were to (1) explore the association of skin cancer and four ultraviolet radiation (UVR) indicators (sunbed use, healthcare data on diagnosed melanocytic nevi (MN) and actinic keratosis (AK), and latitude of birthplace), and (2) find factors other than UVR that could explain the increasing trend in incidence of skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM).

Methods: This population-based cohort study used self-reported questionnaire data from the Stockholm Public Health Cohort, encompassing 103 questions, merged with data from Swedish national registers. The study population included almost 35,000 Swedish-born people aged 30-66 years in 2014.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two groups: patients with extraesophageal GERD symptoms (symptomatic group divided into GERD and non-GERD groups according to 24-h esophageal pH-impedance monitoring [pH-I] results) and healthy controls. For the symptomatic group, endoscopy, pH 24 h, high-resolution manometry (HRM), and salivary Peptest were performed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to estimate the prevalence of disabilities among children aged two to four in Sierra Leone and identify factors associated with these disabilities, as children with disabilities have traditionally been overlooked in child health agendas.
  • Using data from the 2017 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, researchers found that 6.6% of children had disabilities, noting a significant risk of multiple functional difficulties, with boys and older children being less affected.
  • The findings suggest that the prevalence of disabilities is similar to other West and Central African countries; thus, it is crucial to incorporate preventive measures and early interventions alongside existing health and nutrition programs.

Lockdown measures in response to the new Covid-19 virus have caused the largest ever fall of annual greenhouse gas emissions. A key question that we attempt to answer in this study is which, if any, of these measures can be productively encouraged post-lockdown in efforts to sustain at least part of this reduction in emissions. Sweden is uniquely suited for our study because the voluntary nature of lockdown in Sweden allowed us to assess the level of compliance to recommendations and its effects on greenhouse gas emissions.
