A lifelong gluten-free diet (GFD) is the only treatment for celiac disease and other gluten-related disorders. Nevertheless, strict adherence to the GFD is often challenging due to concerns about social isolation, risk of gluten contaminations, high cost, poor quality and the taste of gluten-free products. Moreover, although the GFD is effective in achieving mucosal healing, it may lead to dietary imbalances due to nutrient deficiencies over a long period of time.

Objectives: This study aims to improve early detection of cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) compared to classical clinical scores.
Methods: Data from 7633 patients who underwent cardiac surgery between 2008 and 2018 in our institution were analysed. CSA-AKI was defined according to the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) criteria.

Background: Incidence of ulcerative colitis (UC) in elderly population is increasing because of ageing and because of its minimal impact on life span. Data on natural history, outcomes and therapeutic strategies are limited. Our aim is to characterize UC in elderly-onset patients followed at our Inflammatory Bowel Disease outpatient clinic and compare with adult-onset UC.

Backgropund And Aim: Postoperative thrombocytopenia after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and aggravating causes were the aim of this retrospective study.
Methods: Data of all patients treated with SAVR (n = 1068) and TAVR (n = 816) due to severe aortic valve stenosis was collected at our center from 2010 to 2017. Preprocedural and postprocedural values were collected from electronic patient records.

Background: Functional infrared imaging (fIRI) is used to provide information on circulation, thermal properties and thermoregulatory function of the cutaneous tissue in several clinical settings.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the application of fIRI in Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) assessment, evaluating the thermoregulatory alterations due to joint inflammation in PsA patients both in basal conditions and after a mild functional (isometric) exercise; fIRI outcomes were compared with those provided by Power Doppler Ultrasonography (PWD-US).
Methods: 10 patients with PsA and 11 healthy controls were enrolled in the study.

Objectives: We tested the noninferiority of a fast-track rule-out protocol for the diagnosis of non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction vs noncoronary chest pain based on the single-sampling combined assessment of medium-sensitivity cardiac troponin I and ultra-sensitive copeptin compared with the serial assessment of medium-sensitivity cardiac troponin I.
Methods: Ultra-sensitive copeptin and medium-sensitivity cardiac troponin I levels were measured at presentation in 196 consecutive patients admitted to the emergency department for acute nontraumatic chest pain within 6 hours from symptoms onset and without ST-segment elevation on a 12-lead electrocardiogram. The diagnostic performance for non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction diagnosis of the dual-marker single-sampling strategy with medium-sensitivity cardiac troponin I and ultra-sensitive copeptin on admission was compared with that of the serial 0- and 3-hour medium-sensitivity cardiac troponin I sampling in reference to the adjudicated postdischarge diagnosis, using both the comparison of area under the curve (AUC) receiver operating characteristic and the McNemar chi-square test.

Objectives: To test whether a strategy of complete revascularization (CR) as compared with incomplete myocardial revascularization (IR)-both performed with current "state-of-the-art" percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)-would provide a clinical benefit in patients with multivessel coronary artery disease (MVCAD).
Background: The "optimal" extent of myocardial revascularization remains to be determined.
Methods: We performed a meta-analysis of studies reporting on clinical outcomes of MVCAD patients treated with CR and IR, with extensive (>80%) use of stents for PCI or arterial conduits in CABG.

This paper reports the validation of a quantitative high performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array (HPLC-PDA) method for the simultaneous analysis, in mouse plasma, of eperisone hydrochloride and paracetamol by protein precipitation using zinc sulphate-methanol-acetonitrile. The analytes were resolved on a Gemini C18 column (4.6 mm × 250 mm; 5 μm particle size) using a gradient elution mode with a run time of 15 min, comprising re-equilibration, at 60°C (± 1°C).

Introduction: As a result of the gaps in humanitarian response highlighted by several reports, the international community called for an increased professionalization of humanitarian aid workers. This paper describes a pilot project by an Italian university and a non-profit, non-governmental organization to implement a medical apprenticeship in low-income countries during Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine residencies.
Methods: Before deployment, participants were required to complete a dedicated online training course about safety and security in the field, principles of anesthesia at the district hospital level, emergency and essential surgical care, essentials of medical treatment in resource-constrained environments and psychological support in emergencies.

This paper reports a new MEPS-HPLC-PDA method for the simultaneous analysis of seven non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Furprofen, Indoprofen, Ketoprofen, Fenbufen, Flurbiprofen, Indomethacin, and Ibuprofen) in human plasma and urine. NSAIDs were resolved on a Gemini C18 column (4.6 mm × 250 mm; 5 μm particle size) using a gradient elution mode with a run time of 25 min, comprising re-equilibration, without further purification.

Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is an endogenous nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor known as a mediator of endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis. Circulating ADMA levels are correlated with cardiovascular risk factors such as hypercholesterolemia, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperhomocysteinemia, age and smoking. We assessed the relationship between ADMA values and site-specific association of asymptomatic carotid atherosclerosis (intima-media thickness (CIMT) and plaque) in elderly subjects.

Resolvin D1 (RvD1; 7S,8R,17S-trihydroxy-4Z,9E,11E,13Z,15E,19Z-docosahexaenoic acid) is an endogenous immunoresolvent that regulates acute inflammation and orchestrates resolution. Here, we investigated anti-inflammatory and proresolving actions of RvD1 after oral administration. RvD1 rapidly accumulated in the mouse plasma after oral delivery and dose-dependently (1-100 ng/mouse) reduced leukocyte infiltration in zymosan A-induced acute peritonitis.
