Aim: Health literacy is considered as key factor to empower women to participate in self-care and child-care activities. The purpose of the present study is to determine the relationship between health-promoting behaviours and health literacy among pregnant women.

A descriptive examination of rurality in the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes Cohort: Implications, illustrations, and future directions.

Purpose: The Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Cohort has enrolled over 60,000 children to examine how early environmental factors (broadly defined) are associated with key child health outcomes. The ECHO Cohort may be well-positioned to contribute to our understanding of rural environments and contexts, which has implications for rural health disparities research. The present study examined the outcome of child obesity to not only illustrate the suitability of ECHO Cohort data for these purposes but also determine how various definitions of rural and urban populations impact the presentation of findings and their interpretation.

Dermal Exposure to Agrochemicals as Risk Factor for Skin Cancer in Farmers and Ranchers in the US Central States.

Background: Farm operators are at a high risk of developing skin cancer due to their occupational sun exposure. With the growing incidence of skin cancer, it is also important to evaluate other occupational risk factors. Developing a Charlson Comorbidity Index for the American Indian Population Using the Epidemiologic Data from the Strong Heart Study.

Background: The Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) is a frequently used mortality predictor based on a scoring system for the number and type of patient comorbidities health researchers have used since the late 1980s. The initial purpose of the CCI was to classify comorbid conditions, which could alter the risk of patient mortality within a 1-year time frame. However, the CCI may not accurately reflect risk among American Indians because they are a small proportion of the US population and possibly lack representation in the original patient cohort.

Identification of shared genetic etiology of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases through common cardiometabolic risk factors.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and cerebrovascular diseases (CeVDs) are closely related vascular diseases, sharing common cardiometabolic risk factors (RFs). Although pleiotropic genetic variants of these two diseases have been reported, their underlying pathological mechanisms are still unclear. Leveraging GWAS summary data and using genetic correlation, pleiotropic variants identification, and colocalization analyses, we identified 11 colocalized loci for CVDs-CeVDs-BP (blood pressure), CVDs-CeVDs-LIP (lipid traits), and CVDs-CeVDs-cIMT (carotid intima-media thickness) triplets.

Association of higher potency statin use with risk of osteoporosis and fractures in patients with stroke in a Korean nationwide cohort study.

This population-based cohort study aimed to evaluate the risk of osteoporosis and fractures associated with higher-potency statin use compared to lower-potency statin use in patients with stroke, using data from the Health Insurance and Review Assessment database of South Korea (2010-2019). Birth asphyxia is a well-known cause of neonatal mortality, and the survivors suffer from long-lasting sequels such as seizures, intellectual disabilities, and motor disorders that are great challenges for newborns. Elucidating the determinants of birth asphyxia helps implement evidence-based practice in the local context. Thus, this study aimed at elucidating the determinants of birth asphyxia in urban south Ethiopia.

Prediction of late-onset preeclampsia using plasma proteomics: a longitudinal multi-cohort study.

This study aimed to find a safe and effective cumulative cisplatin dose (CCD) for concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) beneficiaries among elderly nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients. A total of 765 elderly (≥ 60 years old) NPC patients treated with cisplatin-based CCRT and IMRT-alone from 2007 to 2018 were included in this study. RPA-generated risk stratification was used to identify CCRT beneficiaries.

Background: The prevalence of pediatric urolithiasis has increased rapidly, leading to more emergency department (ED) visits across the United States.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine emergency care practices for children and adolescents with urinary stones and characteristics associated with management.

Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of the 2021 Nationwide Emergency Department Sample to identify pediatric patients (≤21 years) presenting to an ED in the United States with a primary diagnosis of urinary stone disease.

The present study investigates how ecosystem resilience affects children's health and acts as a protective shield against high temperature exposure. Ecosystem resilience is the ability of an ecosystem to absorb anthropogenic or climatic shocks and recover from those shocks. The study used various data sources to estimate the impact of temperature extremes on child mortality in India.

Grading the Evidence for Physical Activity and any Outcome in Cancer Survivors: an Umbrella Review of 740 Meta-analytic associations.

Background: To contribute to the refinement of future physical activity (PA) guidelines, which have remained mostly generic until now, we performed an umbrella review of meta-analyses for PA in cancer survivors.

Methods: Medline and Scopus databases were searched in January 2024 for systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the association/effect of any type of PA in every cancer type and for any studied outcome. Statistically significant meta-analyses were categorized into four evidence groups (strong, highly suggestive, suggestive, weak) using pre-established grading criteria.

Correlation of the clinical rating scale for tremor with a global assessment.

Objective: The Fahn-Tolosa-Marín Clinical Rating Scale for Tremor (CRST) includes three parts (tremor severity, motor task performance, functional disability) and a separate global assessment of impairment completed by both the patient and examiner. Although the CRST is used to determine tremor severity and the efficacy of treatments for tremor, the instrument may not sufficiently capture the patient's perspective. The objective of this study was to determine the association of the CRST subpart and total scores with the global assessment.
