Identification of the pollution source of surface water in a chemical park was difficult because many industrial enterprises with complex wastewater components and similar characteristics are located there. Therefore, a national-level chemical park in Jiaxing City was studied, and wastewater samples from ten batches of seven key enterprises in the park were collected and analyzed using 3D excitation emission matrix spectrometry (EEMS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Parallel factor analysis was used to extract common components of EEMS spectra from different batches of drainage in the same enterprise to construct an EEMS characteristic data matrix.

In this study, a laboratory-scale improved constructed rapid infiltration (imCRI) system with non-saturated and saturated layers was constructed, and corn cobs as solid carbon source were added to the saturated layer to enhance the removal of nitrogen. Combined analyses of metagenomics and metabolomics were conducted to elucidate the nitrogen removal mechanism in the imCRI system. The results showed that the hydraulic load significantly influenced the treatment performance of the imCRI system, and a hydraulic load of 1.

Phosphorus (P) is critical to plants in metal-contaminated soils because it participates in various biochemical reactions during plant growth. However, the mechanisms of P in mitigating the toxicity of heavy metals to ryegrass root is still veiled. In this study, the physiological and biochemical dynamics of the ryegrass root under various cadmium (Cd) and P conditions were investigated in a hydroponic system.

Behavioral changes in zebrafish are an effective early warning system to determine water quality. However, only a few studies have examined the response of zebrafish to non-chemical stimulus after exposure to a contaminant. Therefore, this study investigated the differences in the behavioral responses of zebrafish to acoustic stimuli before and after exposure to cadmium (Cd).

Anaerobic co-digestion of sulfur-rich vegetable waste (SVW) with waste activated sludge (WAS) and the underlying mechanisms associated with methane production and phosphorus (P) release were investigated. Four types of SVW (Chinese cabbage, cabbage, rapeseed cake, and garlic) were utilized for co-digestion with WAS, and the methane yield increased by 7.3%-35.

The influence of temperature (30-45℃) and ammonia-nitrogen volume load on the nitrification function and microbial community of activated sludge in an aerobic tank of a sewage treatment plant were investigated under simulated high-temperature stress in the summer. Meanwhile, the bioaugmentation effectiveness of the middle-temperature-enriched nitrifying sludge (with or without acclimation) was evaluated in two biological treatment systems under high-temperature shock. The results showed that the ammonium-nitrogen (NH-N) removal efficiency and the nitrifying bacteria content of the aerobic activated sludge at 30-40℃ were above 90% and up to 4.

A membrane bioreactor (MBR) was used to treat ciprofloxacin (CIP)-contaminated artificial wastewater. The microbial community structure and the abundance of antibiotic resistant genes (ARGs) in the MBR were studied at four CIP dosages (0, 5 mg·L, 10 mg·L, and 15 mg·L). The results showed that Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes remained the dominant phylum, with relative abundances of 57.

Nitrifying activated sludge (NAS) was enriched in a membrane bioreactor (MBR) with pre-treated municipal wastewater and additional ammonium sulfate as the culture medium. The influences of temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), ammonia nitrogen volumetric load, free ammonia (FA), and free nitrite (FNA) on the enrichment of NAS were investigated, the cost of the process was evaluated, and then NAS's application in enhancing a wastewater biological treatment system against ammonia shocking loads was attempted. The results showed that after 182 days of cultivation in an MBR, NAS had a nitrification activity of 98.

An intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor (IASBR) and a traditional sequencing batch reactor (SBR) were respectively used for treating digested piggery wastewater, and the pollutant removal performance was studied at different ratios of chemical oxygen demand (COD) to total nitrogen (TN) in the influent and different loading rates. The results showed that the pollutant removal rates in the IASBR were much higher than those in the SBR. Under influent COD/TN of about 2.

An Arthrospira platensis strain ZJWST-S1 was isolated in Jiaxing City, China, which proved able to proliferate quickly in undiluted digested piggery wastewater (DPW), and the protein content in the algal biomass was high. Single factor experiments showed that the strain was able to quickly grow in a Zarrouk medium as the dosage of sodium bicarbonate, nitrate-nitrogen and phosphate-phosphorus was not less than 4.0 mg·L(-1), 40 mg·L(-1) and 10 mg·L(-1), respectively.
