Objectives: Endoscopic closures of mucosal defects following endoscopic resection can be challenging and time-consuming. The novel through-the-scope suture device has demonstrated acceptable closure times, but its learning curve is still unknown. This study aims to evaluate the number of cases required to achieve competency in this device.

Esophageal adenocarcinoma derived from the ectopic gastric mucosa of the cervical esophagus is very rare. Little is known about the efficacy of endoscopic treatment of these superficial lesions. Herein, we report the first case of lymph node metastasis after endoscopic submucosal dissection of a lesion with invasion into the muscularis mucosa.

Background And Aim: Patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) frequently also have functional dyspepsia (FD) symptoms, which impair their quality of life. However, the magnitude and characteristics of the effects of each symptom on daily life have been unclarified. Using multiple regression analysis, we aimed to clarify these questions.

Objectives: Selection criteria for self-expandable metal stents (SEMSs) with or without cover during palliative treatment of distal malignant biliary obstruction (DMBO) remain unclear. We evaluated factors associated with time to recurrent biliary obstruction (TRBO) in fully covered SEMSs (FCSEMSs) and uncovered SEMSs (UCSEMSs).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients with DMBO who received a SEMS.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage (EUS-BD) has become popular as a new drainage technique for malignant biliary strictures. Although EUS-BD has been reported to show high technical and clinical success rates, the rate of adverse events is 15%. In particular, peritonitis, which is generally caused by bile leakage from the aspiration side during the procedure and occurs within a few days after EUS-BD, needs to be considered as it can be fatal.

Objective: To evaluate the visibility of colorectal lesions using a novel image processing algorithm, texture and color enhancement imaging (TXI), that allows the acquisition of brighter images with enhanced color and surface structure.

Methods: During August-September 2019, patients referred for endoscopic treatment were prospectively recruited. Electronic data acquired while observing colorectal lesions using white light imaging (WLI) were obtained and recorded: WLI, TXI mode1 (with color enhancement), and TXI mode2 (without color enhancement) videos were constructed.

Obesity causes multiple conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and so on, and an intervention is needed for controlling weight and improving metabolic syndrome. However, the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions and pharmacotherapy are restrictive for losing weight. Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) was developed as a new therapy, picking the best of both medication and surgery, less invasive and more effective.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the clinical implications of pancreatic steatosis, or fat accumulation in the pancreas, using endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) amid rising metabolic syndrome concerns.
  • It involved 243 patients divided into four groups, analyzing the relationship between the echogenicity (brightness on imaging) of the pancreas versus control organs, determining key cut-off ratios.
  • Findings indicated significant correlations between factors like sex, alcohol use, and fatty pancreas, highlighting that ectopic fat in the pancreas may signal serious conditions such as pancreatic cancer, particularly in high-risk individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to compare the diagnostic effectiveness of two biopsy methods: a 22-gauge Franseen needle (22G-FNB-H) for histology and a 25-gauge needle (25G-FNA-LBC) for liquid-based cytology in patients with solid pancreatic lesions.
  • The research involved 46 patients and found a high agreement rate of 93.5% for identifying malignancy between both techniques, with no significant difference in their diagnostic abilities.
  • The results suggest that both methods have comparable accuracy, allowing for flexibility in choosing a technique based on the endoscopist's skill and the specific case.
