Mild hyperkalemia is a common side effect of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) treatment of patients with primary aldosteronism (PA), which can be worsened by instructions to minimize salt intake. Our objective was to evaluate the effect of salt consumption on serum potassium levels and mean, mean minimal, and mean maximal systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP) in MRA-treated hyperkalemic PA patients under relative salt restriction. Methods: Individuals studied using the hyperinsulinaemic-euglycaemic clamp at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research from 2008 to 2010 ( = 99) were retrospectively grouped into Lean (body mass index (BMI) < 25 kg/m) or overweight/obese (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m), with the latter further divided into insulin-sensitive (Ob) or insulin-resistant (Ob), based on median clamp M-value (M/I, separate cut-offs for men and women).

Purpose: To investigate the change in IL-10-producing regulatory B cells (Breg), which suppress peripheral immune responses, in patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO).
Methods: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from healthy controls (n = 54), patients with Graves disease (n = 26), and patients with TAO (N=125), and stimulated with CpG/CD40L. The frequency of IL-10-producing Bregs and the expression of IL-10 in response to TSH stimulation were measured by flow cytometry.

Aberrant activation of EGFR represents a common event in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and activates various downstream signaling pathways. While EGFR activation of β-catenin signaling was previously reported, the mediating mechanism remains unclear. Our current study found that EGFR activation in NSCLC cells releases SHC-binging protein 1 (SHCBP1) from SHC adaptor protein 1 (SHC1), which subsequently translocates into the nucleus and directly promotes the transactivating activity of β-catenin, consequently resulting in development of NSCLC cell stemness and malignant progression.
