Background: Telecommunicator CPR (T-CPR), whereby emergency dispatch facilitates cardiac arrest recognition and coaches CPR over the telephone, is an important strategy to increase early recognition and bystander CPR in adult out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Little is known about this treatment strategy in the pediatric population. We investigated the role of T-CPR and related performance among pediatric OHCA.

Background: Every year the American Heart Association's Resuscitation Science Symposium (ReSS) brings together a community of international resuscitation science researchers focused on advancing cardiac arrest care.
Methods And Results: The American Heart Association's ReSS was held in Chicago, Illinois from November 4th to 6th, 2022. This annual narrative review summarizes ReSS programming, including awards, special sessions and scientific content organized by theme and plenary session.

Background The mechanism by which bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) improves survival following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is unclear. We hypothesized that ventricular fibrillation (VF) waveform measures, as surrogates of myocardial physiology, mediate the relationship between bystander CPR and survival. Methods and Results We performed a retrospective cohort study of adult, bystander-witnessed patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest with an initial rhythm of VF who were treated by a metropolitan emergency medical services system from 2005 to 2018.

Background: Translational research in medical education requires the ability to rigorously measure learner performance in actual clinical settings; however, current measurement systems cannot accommodate the variability inherent in many patient care environments. This is especially problematic in emergency medicine, where patients represent a wide spectrum of severity for a single clinical presentation. We aimed to use students' reflective narratives on ethical dilemmas to identify how students experience moral distress while working in the emergency department (ED) to better understand how to support them in the development of their own agency to act ethically.
Methods: Students rotating in our emergency medicine clerkship are required to submit an essay describing an ethical dilemma they encountered.
