This review explores low-cost neurocritical care interventions for resource-limited settings, including economical devices, innovative care models, and disease-specific strategies. Devices like inexpensive ventilators, wearable technology, smartphone-based ultrasound, brain4care, transcranial Doppler, and smartphone pupillometry offer effective diagnostic and monitoring capabilities. Initiatives such as intermediate care units, minimally equipped stroke units, and tele-neurocritical care have demonstrated benefits by reducing hospital stays, preventing complications, and improving clinical and economic outcomes.

The use of context to facilitate the processing of words is recognized as a hallmark of skilled reading. This capability is also hypothesized to change with older age because of cognitive changes across the lifespan. However, research investigating this issue using eye movements or event-related potentials (ERPs) has produced conflicting findings.

We conducted a genome-wide association study on income among individuals of European descent (N = 668,288) to investigate the relationship between socio-economic status and health disparities. We identified 162 genomic loci associated with a common genetic factor underlying various income measures, all with small effect sizes (the Income Factor). Our polygenic index captures 1-5% of income variance, with only one fourth due to direct genetic effects.

The aim of this study was to detect chicken parvovirus (ChPV) and turkey parvovirus (TuPV) on Turkish poultry farms and examine the molecular epidemiology of these viruses. In 2023, a total of 1,060 fecal samples were collected from 76 broiler farms and 30 turkey farms across various regions of Turkiye. The overall positivity rate was 72.

This study employed structural equation modeling (SEM) and geographically weighted regression (GWR) to investigate the various impacts and spatial variations in the factors influencing the HFMD epidemic in Hubei Province from 2016 to 2018. The results indicated that (1) with respect to the direct effects, the number of primary school students had the greatest positive direct effect on the number of HFMD cases, with a coefficient of 0.

Totally implantable central venous catheters (CVCs) are widely used in the management of patients with malignant diseases. Conventionally, port implantations were carried out by general surgeons and vascular radiologists. In recent years, the medical staff of the Medical Oncology department at the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA) has developed a simplified methodology for the routine implantation of these devices.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) causes significant economic losses in the global swine industry due to its high genetic diversity and different virulence levels, which complicate disease management and vaccine development. This study evaluated longitudinal changes in the immune cell composition of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and the clinical outcomes across PRRSV strains with varying virulence, using techniques including single-cell transcriptomics. In highly virulent infection, faster viral replication results in an earlier peak lung-damage time point, marked by significant interstitial pneumonia, a significant decrease in macrophages, and an influx of lymphocytes.

Introduction: Diabetes-related foot ulcer (DFU) is the leading cause for lower extremity amputations (LEAs) in western countries, and may cause social isolation, depression, and death. However, people with DFU are not offered the same prioritized care as cancer patients, despite comparable mortality rates. We therefore decided to create a clinical pathway for patients with DFU.

Background: Lung cancer (LC) is a leading cause of cancer mortality in Argentina. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) had demonstrated higher efficacy than chest radiography as a screening method for early detection and reducing LC mortality. This study estimates the Budget Impact of implementing annual LDCT screening for individuals aged 55-74 with at least 30 pack-years of smoking in Argentina.

Study Objective: Stillbirth is burdensome in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), especially in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Currently, there are two core outcome sets (COS) for stillbirth (prevention and bereavement care), but these were developed with limited reflection of the needs of parents in an LMIC setting. To address this gap, the objective of this study was to establish consensus on the most important outcomes for stillbirth prevention and bereavement care following stillbirth in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are present in a variety of products that are disposed in landfills as waste and end up in landfill leachate which cause severe problems. The primary aim of this study was to detect PFAS in generated leachate in different sections of a process and disposal complex (called Aradkuh) located in Tehran, Iran. Due to techno economic limitations of measuring PFAS in Iran and easiness of measuring physicochemical parameters to determine PFAS concentration as well as better understanding of the mechanisms of these substances releases from landfills, this research aimed to evaluate the potential relationship between these parameters in landfill leachate.

The increasing detection of submucosal tumors (SMTs) in the upper gastrointestinal tract (UGI) is due to the increased clinical use of endoscopy and imaging technology. Some of these SMTs have malignant potential and may cause clinical symptoms. Thus, it is recommended in clinical guidelines to consider resection of these SMTs.

The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Utility - Core 10 Dimensions (QLU-C10D) adds a preference-based scoring algorithm to the EORTC measurement portfolio. It is built on the most widely used health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measure in oncology, the EORTC Quality of Life Questionnaire - Core 30 (QLQ-C30), allowing for the calculation of both HRQoL profiles and health utilities. This is an important advancement for integrating cancer-specific values into health economic evaluations and decision making, offering greater content validity and statistical power than some generic measures.

Economic and material hardship, including housing insecurity - limited or uncertain availability or access to safe, quality, and affordable housing - is strongly linked to negative physical and mental health outcomes among adolescents and adults. However, data limitations and the inherent selectivity of housing insecurity have hindered comprehensive analysis of its long-term effects on physiological and mental health. This study uses data from The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) to construct a sample of participants who experienced housing insecurity between the ages of 18-26 (Wave III) to a suitable control group using propensity score matching.

This is a comparative study that investigates the role of green growth, green technological innovations, agricultural eco-efficiency and trade openness on carbon neutrality in the top three carbon emitting countries, namely, China, the USA and India, using panel quantile regression with quarterly data for the time period of 2010-2022. The results reveal different findings which have important policy implications. Firstly, carbon emissions vs green growth and carbon emissions vs green technological innovation have a significant U-shaped relationship, which indicate that when green growth and green technological innovations increases, the rate of carbon emissions continues to decline up to a threshold point and start to increase thereafter.

As global populations escalate and the demand for food and feed intensifies, the generation of agri-food waste is becoming an increasingly critical issue. Addressing this challenge is crucial for optimizing food production and advancing sustainable waste management practices. In this context, insects, including the Black Soldier Fly (BSF, Hermetia illucens), present opportunities for circularity through the bioconversion of organic waste.

Smallholder-managed oil palm plantations are a major driver of economic welfare and rural development. However, compared to industrial producers, smallholders are associated with lower farm productivity and disproportionately higher rates of illegal land clearing. Therefore, a balance must be struck between mitigating adverse externalities and strengthening favorable outcomes to ensure smallholders' sustainable integration into the palm oil industry.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a chronic, progressive condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. In addition to the daily challenges that HF poses, acute exacerbations can lead to costly hospitalizations and increased mortality. High health care costs and the burden of HF have led to the emerging application of new technologies to support people living with HF to stay well while living in the community.
