The study investigates the link between a right atrial septal microthrombus and stroke in patients with a patent foramen ovale (PFO), identifying a possible pathway for stroke risk.
Out of 466 patients examined, 34 (7%) had a detected microthrombus, with a higher incidence of strokes in this group compared to those without.
The findings suggest that PFO is a significant risk factor for microthrombus formation, highlighting its importance for managing stroke risk in patients with PFO.
