This study aimed to explore the demographic and clinical features of tinnitus individuals and analyse its correlation with associated comorbidities. The study population comprised 147 participants (66 men, 81 women; median age: 52 years) who experienced persistent tinnitus. Comprehensive assessments were carried out, including audiological examinations, scoring using the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory, and thorough medical evaluations.

This retrospective study included 170 eyes from 102 patients undergoing cataract surgery.

Clinical Outcomes for Nasopharyngeal Cancer in Non-Asian Patients: A Single-Center Experience.

: According to Globocan, Romania has the highest incidence of nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) in Europe. Our objective was to evaluate the survival data for a cohort of non-Asian patient population treated with curative intent at a tertiary cancer center in Romania. : We retrospectively analyzed 161 patients with histologically proven, non-metastatic NPC treated at our institution between October 2014 and December 2021 with intensity modulated arc radiotherapy (IMRT) with or without neoadjuvant or concomitant chemotherapy according to the stage of the disease.

Laryngeal Electromyography as a Predictive Factor in the Evolution of Unilateral Recurrent Paralysis Post-Thyroidectomy.

: Dysphonia, a common symptom after thyroid surgery, is most often caused by damage to the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Laryngeal electromyography (LEMG) is used as a qualitative diagnostic tool to distinguish neurological etiology from other causes of dysphonia. The purpose of this study is to establish the value of LEMG as a predictor factor in the recovery of unilateral recurrent paralysis post-thyroidectomy.

Normative Values of Rhinology Questionnaires in Young Adults: A Tool to Identify Candidates for Rhinoplasty.

Objective: Normative values of Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation (ROE) and Functional Rhinoplasty Outcome Inventory 17 (FROI-17) allow the monitoring of surgery outcomes. The objective of our study was to determine the reference norms of these disease-specific questionnaires in the age group that most often seeks rhinoplasty.

Methods: The normative values of the ROE and FROI-17 questionnaires were calculated for 570 (459 women and 111 men) young adults at the mean age of 19.

Sleep Apnea Syndrome in Children: A Retrospective Study of 419 Cases and Polysomnographic Findings with Implications for Rapid Treatment.

Sleep-related disorders are responsible for many serious health conditions, one of these being sleep apnea syndrome, which arises through various mechanisms. Polysomnography is currently used as the gold standard method for diagnosing patients suffering from sleep breathing disorders, thus enabling accurate and swift clinical diagnosis. By using the parameters obtained from polysomnography, this retrospective study has aimed to determine the groups of children that are particularly vulnerable to severe forms of breathing disorders, divided according to diagnoses made of tonsillar hypertrophy forms and sleep apnea as well as by the severity grades and types of apnea, to facilitate rapid and appropriate treatment.

The Otoacoustic Emissions in the Universal Neonatal Hearing Screening: A Scoping Review Update on the African Data (2004 to 2024).

The reported data on African universal neonatal hearing screening (UNHS) practices tend to be quite scarce, despite the developments in hearing screening the last two decades. The objective of this systematic review was (a) to identify the most recent (in a 20-year span) literature information about NHS/UNHS programs in Africa and (b) to provide data on the procedures used to assess the population, the intervention policies, and on the estimated prevalence of congenital hearing loss with an emphasis on bilateral hearing loss cases. : Queries were conducted via the PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases for the time window of 2004-2024.

: Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal storage disease. Earlier studies have mentioned dizziness/balance issues and vestibular involvement as a symptom of Fabry disease. Research on the matter remains scarce.

Transoral Robotic Approach for Pharyngeal Schwannoma.

: Schwannomas are a common condition encountered in clinical ENT practice, but they are rarely found in the pharyngeal or laryngeal regions. : In this report, we share our experience using the transoral robotic approach to treat a schwannoma located on the lateral pharyngeal wall, with the surgery being performed exclusively using transoral robotic surgery (TORS). It is important to be aware of any pseudocystic lesions in this area, as they can lead to unpredictable anatomopathological outcomes.

Background: Stem cell-derived secreted factors could protect neurons in neurodegenerative disease or after injury. The exact neuroprotective components in the secretome remain challenging to discover. Here we developed a cell-to-cell interaction model to identify a retinal ganglion cell (RGC)-protective factor derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

Background: Our previous survey identified a lack of knowledge of myopia among Chinese parents. This research aims to update the characteristics of parents' knowledge, attitude, and practice in myopia control.

Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was disseminated to parents of myopic children in 16 hospitals from 11 provinces in China.

Application of ultrawide-field ss-OCTA in the precise diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy.

Purpose: To study the imaging findings of ultrawide-field swept source optical coherence tomography angiography (ss-OCTA) and its advantages with respect to ultrawide-field fundus photography (FP) in the precise diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy (DR), and to reveal its applications in DR.

Methods: The imaging findings of microangiopathy in ultrawide-field ss-OCTA and ultrawide-field FP from DR patients were retrospectively analyzed, and the differences between the two methods were assessed. In addition, the grade of DR based on the imaging findings of the two modalities was determined and compared.

Subretinal implantation of a human amniotic membrane plug prepared using a modified corneal punch technique for the treatment of large full-thickness macular holes.

Purpose: To report a new technique using tailored corneal punches to prepare round human amniotic membrane (hAM) plugs for the treatment of large full-thickness macular holes (FTMHs).

Methods: Eight eyes with large FTMHs (>650 μm) in eight patients were included. Pars plana vitrectomy (23 G) was performed and round hAM plugs were prepared from the hAM patch by using tailored corneal punches.

Dupilumab Effectiveness in Patients with Severe Allergic Asthma Non-Responsive to Omalizumab.

: Severe allergic asthma is usually treated with omalizumab; however, this drug may not be effective for every patient. By its action, dupilumab could be an alternative in these patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of dupilumab in patients with severe allergic asthma, non-responsive to omalizumab, according to the maintenance of their oral corticosteroid (OCS) dose, an exacerbation rate decrease, or poor control of the disease, despite optimized treatment.

The introduction of Mepolizumab, an anti-interleukin-5 monoclonal antibody, offers a new therapeutic option for patients with severe, uncontrolled CRSwNP. This prospective observational study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of Mepolizumab for treating severe CRSwNP in Italy.

Validation of the Second Version of the LittlEARS Early Speech Production Questionnaire (LEESPQ) in Romanian-Speaking Children with Normal Hearing.

The objectives of the current study were to validate the LittlEARS Early Speech Production Questionnaire (LEESPQ) in Romanian and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Romanian version of the questionnaire for Romanian children with normal hearing. The LEESPQ was created and tested for the assessment of preverbal and early verbal skills (0-18 months) in children with normal hearing. The English version of the LittlEARS Early Speech Production Questionnaire (LEESPQ) was adapted into Romanian language using a translation/back-translation procedure and validation of the content before applying the questionnaire.

Primary Aspergillosis of the Laryngeal Ventricle.

We report a unique case of isolated aspergillosis of the laryngeal ventricle in an immunocompetent patient, mimicking a laryngeal tumor. This case highlights the necessity of considering fungal infections in the differential diagnosis of laryngeal lesions, even in the absence of established risk factors.

Background: The clinical spectrum of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is notably heterogeneous. Some DLBCL patients initially present with neurological manifestations, leading to their preliminary diagnosis within neurology departments. However, the overlap of clinical and auxiliary examination findings with those of various neurological entities-such as cerebral infarction, demyelination, viral encephalitis, and peripheral neuropathy-often results in diagnostic misattribution.

Background: Much effort has been exerted to improve the vitreous cutter probe. This study sought to investigate the clinical outcomes of using a novel 25-gauge (25-G), 10,000-cuts-per-minute (cpm) beveled-tip cutter probe (BTCP) to treat complex rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).

Methods: The preoperative characteristics, intraoperative surgical information, and postoperative recovery data of a prospective case series of 60 consecutive eyes that underwent primary pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for complex RRD between March and October 2021 were recorded, and the correlations among these factors were examined.

This report details the case of a 22-year-old male who was attacked by a hyena while herding camels in rural Qardho, Somalia. The attack resulted in traumatic amputation of both testicles and the penis, finger loss, extensive muscle damage, and a jawbone fracture.

NSE and ProGRP Are Promising Markers for Diagnosis, Efficacy Evaluation, Follow-Up Monitoring, and Prognosis of Small Cell Esophageal Carcinoma.

Background: To investigate the clinical implications of serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), neuron specific enolase (NSE), and pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) in small cell esophageal carcinoma (SCEC).

Methods: Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to determine the area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity of serum markers for differentiating SCEC from patients with esophageal squamous carcinoma (ESCC), esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) and healthy subjects.

Results: The combination of ProGRP and NSE demonstrated significant diagnostic efficacy in distinguishing SCEC from ESCC, EAC, and healthy individuals.

κ-Carrageenan from Grateloupia filicina protects against PM-induced intraocular pressure elevation.

This study investigates the efficacy of GFP01, an almost pure κ-carrageenan derived from Grateloupia filicina, in counteracting intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation induced by PM exposure. GFP01, characterized by a molecular weight of 97.8 kDa, exhibits a linear backbone composed of 4-O-sulfated-β-D-galactose and 3,6-anhydro-α-D-galactose.
