Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the parents' experiences of home monitoring of the fetal heart rhythm. Women with anti-SSA/Ro52 autoantibodies carry a 2%-3% risk of giving birth to a child with congenital heart block (CHB), following transplacental transfer and antibody-mediated inflammation in the fetal conduction system during 18th to 24th gestational week. Early detection and subsequent treatment have been reported to decrease morbidity and mortality.

Case Reports Plast Surg Hand Surg

June 2023

Department of Hand Surgery, Södersjukhuset, Stockholm, Sweden.

We report granuloma formation after using FiberWire for flexor tendon repairs. Four subcutaneous granulomas were identified in 115 patients with FiberWire core sutures, none in 426 with braided polyester. Foreign body reactions were found in the granuloma cases.

High degree of consensus amongst an expert panel regarding focal resurfacing of chondral and osteochondral lesions of the femur with mini-implants.

Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc

September 2023

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Kantonsspital Baselland, Bruderholz, Switzerland.

Introduction: The rationale for the use of mini-implants for partial resurfacing in the treatment of femoral chondral and osteochondral lesions is still under debate. The evidence supporting best practise guidelines is based on studies with low-level evidence. A consensus group of experts was convened to collaboratively advance towards consensus opinions regarding the best available evidence.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop a model that can discriminate between different etiologies of abnormal uterine bleeding.

Design: The International Endometrial Tumor Analysis 1 study is a multicenter observational diagnostic study in 18 bleeding clinics in 9 countries. Consecutive women with abnormal vaginal bleeding presenting for ultrasound examination (n = 2,417) were recruited.

The KAG motif of HLA-DRB1 (β71, β74, β86) predicts seroconversion and development of type 1 diabetes.

EBioMedicine

July 2021

Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University CRC, Skåne University Hospital, Jan Waldenströms gata 35, Skåne University Hospital SUS, Malmö SE-205 02, Sweden. Electronic address:

Background: HLA-DR4, a common antigen of HLA-DRB1, has multiple subtypes that are strongly associated with risk of type 1 diabetes (T1D); however, some are risk neutral or resistant. The pathobiological mechanism of HLA-DR4 subtypes remains to be elucidated.

Methods: We used a population-based case-control study of T1D (962 patients and 636 controls) to decipher genetic associations of HLA-DR4 subtypes and specific residues with susceptibility to T1D.

HLA-DQ molecules account over 50% genetic risk of type 1 diabetes (T1D), but little is known about associated residues. Through next generation targeted sequencing technology and deep learning of DQ residue sequences, the aim was to uncover critical residues and their motifs associated with T1D. Our analysis uncovered (αa1, α44, α157, α196) and (β9, β30, β57, β70, β135) on the HLA-DQ molecule.

Objective: Vaginal bromocriptine significantly reduces heavy menstrual bleeding and pain in women with diffuse adenomyosis. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate whether imaging findings of adenomyosis, as assessed by transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reflect changes induced by the bromocriptine treatment.

Study Design: Eighteen women, aged 35-50, with heavy menstrual bleeding reporting Pictorial Blood Loss Assessment Chart (PBLAC) scores >100 and diffuse adenomyosis according to both MRI and TVU were included.

Aim: The aim was to evaluate emotional experiences of gentle skin massage, combined with regular rehabilitation in patients shortly after being diagnosed with stroke.

Design: A randomized study with two groups: standard individualized rehabilitation and tactile massage for 20 min three times per week (max nine times) or individual standardized rehabilitations.

Methods: This study applied a qualitative approach using semi-structured questions to evaluate experiences of receiving tactile massage among patients with first-time-ever stroke.

Background: During pregnancy, women are at risk of developing persistent symptomatic diastasis recti abdominis (DRA), which may have a detrimental effect on their physical function and quality of life (QoL). The aim of this prospective cohort study was to determine the effect of surgical repair of DRA on abdominal trunk function, urinary incontinence and QoL in postpartum women with trunk instability symptoms resistant to training.

Methods: Postpartum women with diagnosed DRA and training-resistant symptoms underwent double-row plication of the linea alba.

Endometrial carcinoma (EC) molecular classification based on four molecular subclasses identified in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) has gained relevance in recent years due to its prognostic utility and potential to predict benefit from adjuvant treatment. While most ECs can be classified based on a single classifier (POLE exonuclease domain mutations - POLEmut, MMR deficiency - MMRd, p53 abnormal - p53abn), a small but clinically relevant group of tumours harbour more than one molecular classifying feature and are referred to as 'multiple-classifier' ECs. We aimed to describe the clinicopathological and molecular features of multiple-classifier ECs with abnormal p53 (p53abn).

Phenotype of POLE-mutated endometrial cancer.

PLoS One

December 2019

Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet, and Department of Pathology and Cytology, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden.

Background And Purpose: Individualized therapy in endometrial cancer, the most common gynaecologic cancer in the developed world, focuses on identifying specific molecular subtypes. Mutations in the exonuclease domain of the DNA polymerase epsilon (POLE) gene define one such subtype, which causes an ultra-mutated tumour phenotype. These tumours may have an improved progression-free survival and may be receptive to specific therapies.

A multifaceted intervention at all six obstetric units in the Stockholm Health Region was performed in 2008-2011 in order to increase safety for the newborn infants. Case-controlled criterion-based reviews of care processes during labor and delivery have been used to assess factors associated with suboptimal care during labor and delivery. Categories of increased risk of adverse outcome during labor and delivery were defined.

Aims: To determine the impact of a dual dispatch system, using fire fighters as first responders, in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) on short (30 days) and long term (three years) survival, and, to investigate the potential differences regarding in-hospital factors and interventions between the patient groups, such as the use of therapeutic hypothermia and cardiac catheterization.

Methods And Results: OHCAs from 2004 (historical controls) and 2006-2009 (intervention period) were included. During the intervention period, fire fighters equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) were dispatched in suspected OHCA.

Objectives: Our purpose with this investigation was to (i) estimate how often telephone-guided cardiopulmonary resuscitation was offered from emergency medical service dispatchers in Stockholm, (ii) study the willingness to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and (iii) assess factors that could mislead the dispatcher in identifying the patient as a cardiac arrest victim.

Methods: In this prospective study, 313 consecutive emergency calls of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest were obtained from the Swedish Cardiac Arrest Register. Seventy-six cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest fulfilled the inclusion criteria.
