Importance: Elevated non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C; a recommended measure of lipid-related cardiovascular risk) is common in children and increases risk of adult cardiovascular disease (CVD). Whether resolution of elevated childhood non-HDL-C levels by adulthood is associated with reduced risk of clinical CVD events is unknown.
Objective: To examine the associations of non-HDL-C status between childhood and adulthood with incident CVD events.

In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary vascular dysfunction and destruction are observable before the onset of detectable emphysema, but it is unknown whether this is associated with central hypovolemia. We investigated if patients with COPD have reduced pulmonary blood volume (PBV) evaluated by Rb-positron emission tomography (PET) at rest and during adenosine-induced hyperemia. This single-center retrospective cohort study assessed 6,301 Rb-PET myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) examinations performed over a 6-yr period.

Aims: The aims of our study were to evaluate whether point-of-care β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) measurement can be used to identify patients with adequate cardiac glucose metabolism suppression for cardiac [F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose-positron emission tomography with computerized tomography (FDG-PET/CT) and to develop a pretest probability calculator of myocardial suppression using other metabolic factors attainable before imaging.
Methods And Results: We recruited 193 patients with any clinical indication for whole body [F]-FDG-PET/CT. BHB level was measured with a point-of-care device.

Department of Medicine, University of Turku, Turku, Finland; Division of Medicine, Turku University Hospital, Turku, Finland.
Background And Aims: Atherosclerosis is accompanied by pre-clinical vascular changes that can be detected using ultrasound imaging. We examined the value of such pre-clinical features in identifying young adults who are at risk of developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
Methods: A total of 2641 individuals free of ASCVD were examined at the mean age of 32 years (range 24-45 years) for carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) and carotid plaques, carotid artery elasticity, and brachial artery flow-mediated endothelium-dependent vasodilation (FMD).

Background: Type I interferon (IFN-I) and IFN autoantibodies play a crucial role in controlling SARS-CoV-2 infection. The levels of these mediators have only rarely been studied in the alveolar compartment in patients with COVID-19 acute respiratory distress syndrome (CARDS) but have not been compared across different ARDS etiologies, and the potential effect of dexamethasone (DXM) on these mediators is not known.
Methods: We assessed the integrity of the alveolo-capillary membrane, interleukins, type I, II, and III IFNs, and IFN autoantibodies by studying the epithelial lining fluid (ELF) volumes, alveolar concentration of protein, and ELF-corrected concentrations of cytokines in two patient subgroups and controls.

Background And Aims: The utility of lipid screening in pediatric settings for preventing adult atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases partly depends on the lifelong tracking of lipid levels. This systematic review aimed to quantify the tracking of lipid levels from childhood and adolescence to adulthood.
Methods: We systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar in March 2022.

Background: We developed a fully automated artificial intelligence (AI)AI-based-based method for detecting suspected lymph node metastases in prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)(PSMA) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT)(PET-CT) images of prostate cancer patients by using data augmentation that adds synthetic lymph node metastases to the images to expand the training set.
Methods: Synthetic data were derived from original training images to which new synthetic lymph node metastases were added. Thus, the original training set from a previous study (n = 420) was expanded by one synthetic image for every original image (n = 840), which was used to train an AI model.

Objective: Androgens have been hypothesized to be involved in the pathophysiology of cluster headache due to the male predominance, but whether androgens are altered in patients with cluster headache remains unclear.
Methods: We performed a prospective, case-controlled study in adult males with cluster headache. Sera were measured for hormones including testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and sex hormone-binding globulin in 60 participants with episodic cluster headache (during a bout and in remission), 60 participants with chronic cluster headache, and 60 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.

Many patients exhibit persistently reduced pulmonary diffusing capacity after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In this study, dual test gas diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide and nitric oxide (D) metrics and their relationship to disease severity and physical performance were examined in patients who previously had COVID-19. An initial cohort of 148 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 of all severities between March 2020 and March 2021 had a D measurement performed using the single-breath method at 5.

Although both short and long sleep duration are associated with elevated hypertension risk, our understanding of their interplay with biological pathways governing blood pressure remains limited. To address this, we carried out genome-wide cross-population gene-by-short-sleep and long-sleep duration interaction analyses for three blood pressure traits (systolic, diastolic, and pulse pressure) in 811,405 individuals from diverse population groups. We discover 22 novel gene-sleep duration interaction loci for blood pressure, mapped to genes involved in neurological, thyroidal, bone metabolism, and hematopoietic pathways.

Purpose: Meticulous manual delineations of the prostate and the surrounding organs at risk are necessary for prostate cancer radiation therapy to avoid side effects to the latter. This process is time consuming and hampered by inter- and intraobserver variability, all of which could be alleviated by artificial intelligence (AI). This study aimed to evaluate the performance of AI compared with manual organ delineations on computed tomography (CT) scans for radiation treatment planning.

The activity of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in patients with metastatic melanoma is often monitored using fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) scans. However, distinguishing disease progression (PD) from pseudoprogression (PsPD), where increased FDG uptake might reflect immune cell activity rather than tumor growth, remains a challenge. This prospective study compared the efficacy of dual-time point (DTP) FDG-PET/CT with modified response criteria (PERCIMT) in differentiating PsPD from PD.

Endotoxin administration is commonly used to study the inflammatory response, and though traditionally given as a bolus injection, it can be administered as a continuous infusion over multiple hours. Several studies hypothesize that the latter better represents the prolonged and pronounced inflammation observed in conditions like sepsis. Yet very few experimental studies have administered endotoxin using both strategies, leaving significant gaps in determining the underlying mechanisms responsible for their differing immune responses.

Introduction: Visual rating of the cingulate island sign (CIS) on [F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([F]FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) has a high specificity for dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) in selected cohorts such as DLB versus Alzheimer's disease (AD). In a mixed memory clinical population this study aimed to uncover the prevalence of CIS, the diagnostic accuracy for DLB, and the relationship between CIS and disease severity.
Methods: CIS on [F]FDG-PET was retrospectively assessed with the visual CIS rating scale (CISRs) in 1000 patients with a syndrome diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia with no restrictions in etiological diagnosis.
