Assessing the response to systemic therapy in neuroendocrine tumors (NET) is challenging since morphological imaging response is often delayed and not necessarily reflective of clinical benefit. Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) has a complex mechanism of action, further complicating response assessment. In response to these challenges, the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS) Theranostics Task Force conducted a statement-based survey among experts to identify the current landscape and unmet needs in PRRT response assessment.

December 2024

King's College London & Guy's and St Thomas' PET Centre, School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences, King's College, London SE1 7EH, UK. Electronic address:

The development of long axial field of view (LAFOV) positron emission tomography coupled with computed tomography (PET/CT) scanners might be considered the biggest step forward in PET imaging since it became a mainstream clinical modality. Despite increased capital and maintenance costs and data storage requirements, the improvement in image quality, significantly faster acquisition times and lower radiopharmaceutical administered activities, allow a high quality and more efficient clinical service. This step change in technology overcomes some of the limitations of standard short axial field of view scanners.

Doppler ultrasound can be used to evaluate leg blood flow (Q̇), especially of interest when investigating peripheral vascular limitations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the within-session repeatability, a subdomain of test-retest reliability, of this method remains unknown. This study aimed to provide within-session repeatability estimates of Doppler ultrasound-based Q̇ at rest and during single-leg knee-extensor exercise (KEE) in patients with COPD, and to compare these estimates to matched healthy controls.

In recent years, there has been a notably increased interest in the study of multivariate interactions and emergent higher-order dependencies. This is particularly evident in the context of identifying synergistic sets, which are defined as combinations of elements whose joint interactions result in the emergence of information that is not present in any individual subset of those elements. The scalability of frameworks such as partial information decomposition (PID) and those based on multivariate extensions of mutual information, such as O-information, is limited by combinational explosion in the number of sets that must be assessed.

Long Axial Field-of-View PET/CT: New Opportunities for Pediatric Imaging.

Semin Nucl Med

January 2025

Department of Nuclear Medicine and PET-Centre, Aarhus University Hospital, Aarhus, Denmark; Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark.

The combined use of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) has become increasingly vital for diagnosing and managing oncological and infectious diseases in pediatric patients. The introduction of long axial field-of-view (LAFOV) PET/CT scanners, also known as "Total Body PET/CT," marks a significant advancement in nuclear medicine. This new technology enables faster pediatric imaging with substantially reduced radiation exposure and essentially eliminates the need for sedation, addressing previous critical concerns in pediatric imaging.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between adiponectin (ADP) levels, glucose metabolism, and body composition in adults with cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD).
  • It was found that while ADP levels were negatively correlated with indicators of insulin resistance and lower body mass metrics, they did not show a correlation with glucose intolerance.
  • The findings suggest that malnutrition in cystic fibrosis may contribute to elevated ADP levels, indicating a complex interaction between body composition and glucose metabolism in these patients.

Hyperpolarized 1- 13 C-pyruvate magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and MRS imaging (MRSI) offer noninvasive and real-time direct assessment of the altered metabolism of cancer cells known as the Warburg effect-a key hallmark of cancer. When combined with simultaneously acquired 18 F-FDG PET in a PET/MR scanner, coined hyperPET by us, this dual-modality may unveil cancer-type specific glucose metabolic phenotypes with potential implications for patient prognostication, treatment-response assessment, and prediction. We here present the first human data of simultaneously acquired hyperpolarized MRS/MRSI and PET performed in a PET/MR scanner-and the first human hyperpolarized MRS/MRSI data from a patient with lymphoma.
