Aim: Liver transplantation (LT) is essential due to its curative efficacy, but liver-graft shortages have limited its widespread application. Bridging locoregional therapy (LRT) before LT has been performed to prevent tumor progression, and a recent literature review revealed that it is associated with a nonsignificant trend toward better survival outcomes. However, much more information on bridging therapy has become available since then.

Korean J Radiol

July 2024

Department of Radiology and Research Institute of Radiology, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Article Synopsis
  • Evaluating binary diagnostic test performance, including AI algorithms, relies on key metrics like sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values to determine which test is more accurate.
  • Comparing predictive values is challenging due to their dependent denominators on test outcomes, unlike sensitivities and specificities.
  • This paper reviews methods for comparing predictive values, suggesting the permutation test as a suitable, non-parametric approach for smaller datasets, illustrated with data on breast cancer diagnostics from MRI and combined mammography and ultrasound methods.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores how changes in body mass index (BMI) over time affect the risk of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA), particularly in overweight populations, using data from the Korean National Health Information Database from 2009 to 2018.
  • - Findings reveal a reverse J-shaped relationship: significant weight loss increases OHCA risk, especially among overweight individuals, while mild weight gain does not significantly affect OHCA risk.
  • - The research suggests that maintaining a stable weight is important for reducing OHCA risk, advocating for public health strategies focused on weight stability for all, with a notable emphasis on males.

Rationale: Research on diagnostic reasoning has been conducted for fifty years or more. There is growing consensus that there are two distinct processes involved in human diagnostic reasoning: System 1, a rapid retrieval of possible diagnostic hypotheses, largely automatic and based to a large part on experiential knowledge, and System 2, a slower, analytical, conscious application of formal knowledge to arrive at a diagnostic conclusion. However, within this broad framework, controversy and disagreement abound.

Aims And Objectives: Contextual information which is implicitly available to physicians during clinical encounters has been shown to influence diagnostic reasoning. To better understand the psychological mechanisms underlying the influence of context on diagnostic accuracy, we conducted a review of experimental research on this topic.

Method: We searched Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus for relevant articles and looked for additional records by reading the references and approaching experts.
