Background: We aimed to examine the technical and oncological safety of curative gastrectomy for gastric cancer patients who underwent liver transplantation.

Methods: In this study, we compared the surgical and oncological outcomes of two groups. The first group consisted of 32 consecutive patients who underwent curative gastrectomy for gastric cancer after liver transplantation (LT), while the other group consisted of 127 patients who underwent conventional gastrectomy (CG).

Background The wide variability of screening imaging use in patients with a personal history of breast cancer (PHBC) warrants investigation of its comparative clinical effectiveness. While more intensive screening with US or MRI at an interval of less than 1 year could increase early-stage breast cancer detection, its benefit has not been established. Deep learning referral suggestion and tumour discrimination using explainable artificial intelligence applied to multiparametric MRI.

Objectives: An appropriate and fast clinical referral suggestion is important for intra-axial mass-like lesions (IMLLs) in the emergency setting. We aimed to apply an interpretable deep learning (DL) system to multiparametric MRI to obtain clinical referral suggestion for IMLLs, and to validate it in the setting of nontraumatic emergency neuroradiology.

Methods: A DL system was developed in 747 patients with IMLLs ranging 30 diseases who underwent pre- and post-contrast T1-weighted (T1CE), FLAIR, and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI).

Predicting short-term and long-term mortalities from sepsis in patients who receive allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Patients who receive allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) may develop sepsis, which result in a highly intensive care unit admission rate and mortality. Therefore, short-term and long-term prognostic models for sepsis after allo-HSCT are urgently needed. We enrolled patients receiving allo-HSCT who developed sepsis after allo-HSCT at Peking University People's Hospital between 2012 and 2021, including 287 patients who received allo-HSCT in 2018-2021 in the derivation cohort, and 337 patients in 2012-2017 in the validation cohort.

Bovine pericardial versus porcine bioprosthetic mitral valves: results from a Korean Nationwide Cohort Study.

Objectives: Comparisons of long-term clinical outcomes of mitral valve replacement (MVR) between bovine pericardial and porcine bioprostheses are conflicting, with limited research in large-scale real-world clinical settings. This study examined clinical outcomes in MVR according to bioprosthesis type using a national administrative claims database.

Methods: This study included adult patients undergoing bioprosthetic MVR between 2003 and 2018 using administrative health care data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service database.

Background: Viral reactivations and co-infections have been reported among COVID-19 patients. However, studies on the clinical outcomes of different viral reactivations and co-infections are currently in limit. Thus, the primary purpose of this review is to perform an overarching investigation on the cases of latent virus reactivation and co-infection in COVID-19 patients to build collective evidence contributing to improving patient health.

Factors associated with suffering from dying in patients with cancer: a cross-sectional analytical study among bereaved caregivers.

Background: In Colombia, cancer incidence is increasing, as is the demand for end-of-life care. Understanding how patients who die from cancer experience this phase will allow the identification of factors associated with greater suffering and actions to improve end-of-life care. We aimed to explore associations between the level of suffering of patients who died from cancer and were cared for in three Colombian hospitals with patient, tumor, treatment, and care characteristics and provided information.

Effectiveness of pulmonary artery catheter monitoring for patients with cardiogenic shock of various causes: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Cardiogenic shock is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Invasive hemodynamic monitoring with pulmonary artery catheterization (PAC) can be useful in the assessment of changes in cardiac function and hemodynamic status; however, the benefits of PAC in the management of cardiogenic shock are not known well.

Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies and randomized controlled trials, comparing in-hospital mortality between PAC and non-PAC groups of cardiogenic shock patients with various underlying causes.

Methods: Patients aged  ≥ 60 years (clinically diagnosed with iNPH, Parkinson's disease, or Alzheimer's disease or healthy controls) who underwent MRI including three-dimensional T1-weighted volumetric MRI were retrospectively identified from two tertiary referral hospitals (one hospital for derivation set and the other for validation set). This multicenter retrospective cohort study included women who underwent cerclage operations due to painless cervical dilation in the second trimester (14-28 weeks). Early Desaturation During 6-Minute Walk Test is a Predictor of Mortality in COPD.

Background: Oxygen desaturation during exercise is mainly observed in severe cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and is associated with a worse prognosis, but little is known about the type of desaturation that causes the greatest risk of mortality.

Material And Methods: We studied all of the 6-min walk tests performed periodically at a tertiary hospital over a period of 12 years in patients with moderate or severe COPD. We classified patients as non-desaturators if they did not suffer a drop in oxygen saturation (SpO2 < 88%) during the test, early desaturators if the time until desaturation was < 1 min, and non-early desaturators if it was longer than 1 min.
