Chronic hemolysis potentially elevates the risk of gallstones in several types of congenital red blood cell (RBC) disorders. However, the magnitude of the risk is unknown. We investigate the risk of gallstone disease in congenital RBC disorder patients, compared with general population comparators.

Background: Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)-guided catheter ablation of the cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) has been proven feasible, but determinants of local electrogram (EGM) voltage drops during radiofrequency (RF) applications are unknown.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate local atrial bipolar EGM voltage drops and the association with delivered RF energy and anatomical information derived from peri-procedural CMR imaging.
Methods: In consecutive patients undergoing CMR-guided CTI ablation procedures, relative EGM voltage drops for RF applications ≥20 seconds were calculated.

Background: The SIPPET randomized clinical trial showed that in previously untreated patients (PUPs) with severe hemophilia A, treatment with plasma-derived factor (F)VIII (pdFVIII) within the first 50 exposure days (EDs) was associated with a lower cumulative incidence of inhibitors than with recombinant FVIII (rFVIII). Switching to rFVIII beyond 50 EDs with pdFVIII is a treatment often implemented by many centers. The question is whether or not this switch may induce a risk of inhibitor development.

Background: Thrombectomy for acute large vessel occlusion is a well-established treatment for stroke prevention. However, futile recanalization cases, where no-reflow occurs despite successful recanalization, have been reported. This study aimed to assess cerebral hemodynamics immediately after thrombectomy and their relationship with clinical outcomes.

Hormone-related venous thromboembolism (VTE) is common and entails scenarios in which VTE occurs during exposure to exogenous or endogenous female sex hormones, typically estrogen and progestogen. For the management of hormone-related VTE, it is important to realize that many patients use these hormones for a vital purpose often strongly related to the patient's well-being and quality of life. In this review we discuss clinical cases of VTE related to hormonal contraceptive use and pregnancy to illustrate key considerations for clinical practice.

Background: Effectiveness of disease-modifying treatment (DMT) in people affected by primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) is limited. Whether specific subgroups may benefit more from DMT in a real-world setting remains unclear. Our aim was to investigate the potential effect of DMT on disability worsening among patients with PPMS stratified by different disability trajectories.

Department of Neurology and Experimental Neurology, Clinical and Experimental Spinal Cord Injury Research (Neuroparaplegiology), Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, corporate member of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Berlin Institute of Health, Berlin, Germany.
Importance: Pressure ulcers (PUs) are (1) prevalent secondary complications after spinal cord injury (SCI), (2) present with elevated systemic inflammatory tone, and (3) may interfere with healing processes underlying neurological recovery (disrepair).
Objective: To investigate whether PUs acquired during initial hospitalization are associated with neurological and functional long-term outcome and survival after SCI.
Design, Setting, And Participants: Multicenter cohort study at 20 centers of the prospective SCI Model Systems (SCIMS) Database (Birmingham, AL).

Background: Long-term outcome after a first venous thromboembolism (VTE) might be optimized by tailoring anticoagulant treatment duration on individual risks of recurrence and major bleeding. The L-TRRiP models (A-D) were previously developed in data from the Dutch Multiple Environment and Genetic Assessment of Risk Factors for Venous thrombosis study to predict VTE recurrence.
Objectives: We aimed to externally validate models C and D using data from the United States Heart and Vascular Health (HVH) study.

In previous studies, surgical specialties accounted for most malpractice claims. The objective of the present study was to determine the risk for malpractice claims for physicians working in hospitals. A retrospective observational study using anonymized closed malpractice claims between 2007 up to 2021 from two Dutch insurers was carried out.

Objectives: Accurate prevalence estimates of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) are important for numerous purposes including orphan drug designation. A key criterion for orphan drug designation is a disease prevalence of less than 5/10,000 persons. The objective is to apply and compare different methods of prevalence assessment.

Background: Considering the paucity of data, we aimed to describe nationwide time trends in antithrombotic therapy during pregnancy and risks of maternal and perinatal outcomes in the Netherlands.
Methods: In this nationwide cohort study, all female individuals aged 16-45 years with delivery records in the Dutch perinatal registry between Jan 1, 2013, and Dec 31, 2019, and their infants, were included. Individually linked data from Statistics Netherlands on outpatient medication prescriptions, in-hospital diagnoses, and mortality were used to evaluate time trends in antithrombotic therapy during pregnancy, and risks of maternal and perinatal outcomes (including thromboembolism, bleeding, preeclampsia and eclampsia, and low birthweight).

Missing data in electronic health records (EHRs) presents significant challenges in medical studies. Many methods have been proposed, but uncertainty exists regarding the current state of missing data addressing methods applied for EHR and which strategy performs better within specific contexts. All studies referencing EHR and missing data methods published from their inception until 2024 March 30 were searched via the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Digital Bibliography and Library Project databases.

Background & objectives The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented global immunization efforts, with drive-through vaccination campaigns established to expedite and ensure safe coverage. However, research on immediate adverse events following immunization (AEFI) in these settings is limited. This study aims to evaluate the frequency and characteristics of immediate AEFI during drive-through COVID-19 vaccination campaigns in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, using the Sinovac/CoronaVac vaccine Methods This cross-sectional study utilized secondary data from the local vaccine registry managed by the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, from July 27 to September 6, 2021.

Purpose: Since the last update of GEC-ESTRO (Groupe Européen de Curiethérapie - European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology) recommendations for head and neck (HN) brachytherapy in 2017, advances in understanding and management of HN cancers have influenced brachytherapy. We conducted a scoping review to depict the evolution of HN brachytherapy research and practice, and identify emerging topics since the previously published guidelines.
Material And Methods: Systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, EBSCOhost, Europe PMC, and Google Scholar databases for articles on HN brachytherapy from 2017 onwards; the search was last done on June 29, 2023.

Background: Numerous studies have been conducted to predict depressive symptoms using passive smartphone data, mostly integrating the GPS signal as a measure of mobility. Environmental factors have been identified as correlated with depressive symptoms in specialized studies both before and during the pandemic.
Objective: This study combined a data-based approach using passive smartphone data to predict self-reported depressive symptoms with a wide range of GPS-based environmental factors as predictors.
