Soon after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak, it became clear that vaccination will be the most useful tool to combat the disease. Despite the apparent safety and efficacy of the developed anti-COVID-19 vaccines, relatively high percentages of the population worldwide refused to get vaccinated, including many health workers and health students. The present cross-sectional study examined the motives, attitudes, and personal characteristics of those who did not get vaccinated against COVID-19 or vaccinated without complete willingness among nursing students and nursing faculty members in Israel (n = 472).

Context: The severity of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) inflammation in individuals with obesity is thought to signify obesity subphenotype(s) associated with higher cardiometabolic risk. Yet, this tissue is not accessible for direct sampling in the nonsurgical patient.
Objective: We hypothesized that circulating miRNAs (circ-miRs) could serve as biomarkers to distinguish human obesity subgroups with high or low extent of VAT inflammation.

Dental follicle cells (DFCs) are osteogenic progenitor cells and are well suited for molecular studies of differentiation of alveolar osteoblasts. A recent study examined the metabolism in DFCs during osteogenic differentiation and showed that energy metabolism is increased after 14 days of differentiation (mid phase). However, previous studies have examined proteomes at early (2 h, 24 h) or very late (28 days) stages of differentiation, but not during the phase of increased metabolic activity.

Targeted therapies for prostate, breast, and ovarian cancers are based on their activity against primary tumors rather than their anti-metastatic activity. Consequently, there is an urgent need for new agents targeting the metastatic process. Emerging evidence correlates in vitro and in vivo cancer invasion and metastasis with increased activity of the proteases mesotrypsin (prostate and breast cancer) and kallikrein 6 (KLK6; ovarian cancer).

Dapagliflozin and empagliflozin have demonstrated favorable clinical outcomes among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, their comparative monetary value for improving outcomes in CKD patients is unestablished. We examined the cost-per-outcome implications of utilizing dapagliflozin as compared to empagliflozin for prevention of renal and cardiovascular events in CKD patients.

Cannabidiol (CBD) has previously been shown to inhibit inflammatory cytokine production in both in vitro and in vivo studies of neurodegenerative diseases. To date, the CBD treatment of these diseases by quantitative targeting directly to the brain is one of the greatest challenges. In this paper, we present a new particulate system capable of delivering CBD into the brain via the intranasal route.

Introduction: Coronary artery calcification (CAC) and especially progression in CAC is a strong predictor of acute myocardial infarction and cardiovascular mortality. Supplementation with vitamin K2 and D3 has been suggested to have a protective role in the progression of CAC. In this study, we will examine the effect of vitamins K2 and D3 in men and women with severe CAC.

Leishmaniasis, a category 1 neglected protozoan disease caused by a kinetoplastid pathogen called is transmitted through dipteran insect vectors (phlebotomine, sand flies) in three main clinical forms: fatal visceral leishmaniasis, self-healing cutaneous leishmaniasis, and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis. Generic pentavalent antimonials have long been the drug of choice against leishmaniasis; however, their success is plagued with limitations such as drug resistance and severe side effects, which makes them redundant as frontline therapy for endemic visceral leishmaniasis. Alternative therapeutic regimens based on amphotericin B, miltefosine, and paromomycin have also been approved.

How do aberrations in widely expressed genes lead to tissue-selective hereditary diseases? Previous attempts to answer this question were limited to testing a few candidate mechanisms. To answer this question at a larger scale, we developed "Tissue Risk Assessment of Causality by Expression" (TRACE), a machine learning approach to predict genes that underlie tissue-selective diseases and selectivity-related features. TRACE utilized 4,744 biologically interpretable tissue-specific gene features that were inferred from heterogeneous omics datasets.

The distinct functions and phenotypes of human tissues and cells derive from the activity of biological processes that varies in a context-dependent manner. Here, we present the Process Activity (ProAct) webserver that estimates the preferential activity of biological processes in tissues, cells, and other contexts. Users can upload a differential gene expression matrix measured across contexts or cells, or use a built-in matrix of differential gene expression in 34 human tissues.

Importance: Immediate consequences of trauma include a rapid and immense activation of the immune system, whereas long-term outcomes include premature death, physical disability, and reduced workability.
Objective: To investigate if moderate to severe trauma is associated with long-term increased risk of death or immune-mediated or cancer disease.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This registry-based, matched, co-twin control cohort study linked the Danish Twin Registry and the Danish National Patient Registry to identify twin pairs in which 1 twin had been exposed to severe trauma and the other twin had not from 1994 to 2018.

Background: A paradoxical protective effect of diabetes on the development and progression of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) has been known for years. This study aimed to investigate whether the protective role of diabetes on AAAs has evolved over the years.
Methods: A cross-sectional study, a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Bipolar-disorder's pathophysiology and the mechanism by which medications exert their beneficial effect is yet unknown, but others' and our data implicate patients' brain mitochondrial-dysfunction and its amendment by mood-stabilizers. We recently designed a novel mouse bipolar-disorder-like model using chronic administration of a low-dose of the oxidative-phosphorylation complex I inhibitor, rotenone. Four and eight weeks rotenone treatment induced manic- and depressive-like behavior, respectively, accompanied by mood-related neurochemical changes.

Background And Aims: Recent technological advances have established vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) as central players in atherosclerosis. Increasingly complex genetic mouse models have unveiled that 30-70% of cells in experimentally induced atherosclerotic lesions derive from a handful of medial SMCs, and that these can adopt a broad range of plaque cell phenotypes. Most of these models are based on the mouse line as Cre-driver.
