Background: The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) is a useful frailty marker for predicting clinical outcomes in patients undergoing invasive therapy. However, the clinical impact of CFS after transcatheter edge-to-edge repair in patients with mitral regurgitation (MR) remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the association between the baseline frail status defined by the CFS and clinical outcomes with or without postprocedural MR ≥2+ (post-MR ≥2+) after transcatheter edge-to-edge repair.

Article Synopsis
  • - A study on 367 patients undergoing ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) compared outcomes between radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and cryoablation (CRA) to see how inducibility affects AF recurrence, following patients for 600 days.
  • - Results showed no significant difference in AF recurrence rates between the RFA (17%) and CRA (19%) groups, but inducibility through burst pacing (BP) was a strong predictor of recurrence in the RFA group, especially with low-frequency burst pacing (LFBP).
  • - In contrast, inducibility by BP after CRA did not predict recurrence, indicating that different ablation methods might yield different risks for returning AF.

For many years, the significance of cardiac lymphatic vessels was largely overlooked in clinical practice, with little consideration given to their role in the pathophysiology or treatment of cardiac diseases. However, recent research has brought renewed attention to these vessels, progressively illuminating their function and importance within the realm of cardiovascular science. Experimental studies, particularly those utilizing animal models of cardiac disease, have demonstrated a clear relationship between cardiac lymphatic vessels and both the pathogenesis and progression of these conditions.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to summarize magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of perilymphatic enhancement (PE) and endolymphatic hydrops (EH) of the inner ear, which are associated with vestibular and cochlear symptoms.

Methods: We analyzed data on ears with definite Meniere's disease (MD), sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), vertigo, and listening difficulties (LiD) from 508 ears of 254 patients who underwent contrast-enhanced 3-Tesla MRI between April 2021 and March 2023. We evaluated the degree of endolymphatic hydrops (EH), signal intensity ratios (SIRs) between the basal turns of the cochlea and cerebellum, and hearing levels for all ears.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the FIB4 index, a noninvasive marker, to see if it can predict adverse outcomes, particularly all-cause mortality, in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who received primary coronary intervention.
  • Researchers analyzed 1,354 STEMI patients, categorizing them based on their FIB4 index values into low, intermediate, and high risk for mortality during a follow-up period of 4.3 years.
  • Findings indicate that higher FIB4 index values significantly correlate with increased all-cause mortality, establishing it as an independent risk predictor in this patient population.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (S-ICDs) experience oversensing episodes (OS) more frequently than those with traditional transvenous ICDs, indicating a need for better detection methods.
  • A study of 21 patients found that 28.6% experienced OS, particularly among those with Brugada/J wave syndrome, and determined that a significantly lower QRS amplitude in the synthesized V7 lead (synV7) was linked to OS incidence.
  • The study suggests that a synV7 QRS amplitude of less than 0.61 mV can effectively predict the occurrence of OS, highlighting the need for monitoring this parameter in patients with S-ICDs.
