Impact of Acute Kidney Injury After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: A Nationwide Study.

Background: In patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), the impact of acute kidney injury (AKI) on the prognosis and especially on future kidney function has been sparsely examined, and data from large cohorts are warranted.

Methods And Results: With Danish nationwide registries, we identified all patients undergoing TAVR from 2014 to 2021 with no previous dialysis treatment. According to 2 plasma creatinine samples, we identified those suffering a postprocedural AKI within 21 days after TAVR.

Adherence and Discontinuation of Optimal Heart Failure Therapies According to Age: A Danish Nationwide Study.

Background Guideline-recommended disease-modifying pharmacological therapies for heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction are underutilized, particularly among elderly patients. We studied the association of age in adherence and discontinuation of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin-II receptor blockers (ACEi/ARB), β-blockers (BB), and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists. Methods and Results Patients with a first heart failure diagnosis who had initiated ACEi/ARB and BB within 120 days of presentation were included from nationwide registries and divided into 3 age groups: <65 years (reference), 65 to 79, and ≥80.

One-Year Mortality After Intensification of Outpatient Diuretic Therapy.

Background Mortality is increased following a hospitalization for decompensated heart failure (HF), during which diuretics are usually intensified. It is unclear how risk is affected after outpatient intensification of diuretic therapy for HF. Methods and Results From nationwide administrative registers, we identified all Danish patients who were diagnosed with HF from 2001 to 2016 and received angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor/angiotensin receptor blocker and β blocker within 120 days.
