Introduction: Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a known complication after anthracyclines and radiotherapy for classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL). Contemporary cHL treatment may be associated with less risk because radiotherapy use and techniques have changed substantially over time.
Methods: In this study, Swedish cHL patients diagnosed in 2000-2018, and treated with adriamycin [doxorubicin], bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine (ABVD) or bleomycin, etoposide, Adriamycin [doxorubicin], cyclophosphamide, vincristine, procarbazine, and prednisone (BEACOPP), were matched 1:10 to the general population on birth year and sex to investigate relative rates and cumulative risks of CHF.

Background: Little evidence is available on the disease expression in relatives of index patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This information has important implications for family screening programs, genetic counseling, and management of affected families.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the disease expression and penetrance in relatives of index patients carrying pathogenic/likely pathogenic (P/LP) variants in recognized HCM genes.

Background: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by unexplained left ventricle hypertrophy (LVH) ≥15 mm. The condition is often hereditary and family screening is recommended to reduce the risk of adverse disease complications and premature death among relatives. Correct diagnosis of index patients is important to ensure that only relatives at risk of disease development are invited for family screening.

Although sex-specific 99th percentile thresholds of troponins are recommended in international guidelines, the clinical effect of their use is poorly investigated. The DANSPOT Study (The Danish Study of Sex- and Population-Specific 99th percentile upper reference limits of Troponin) aims to evaluate the clinical effect of a prospective implementation of population- and sex-specific diagnostic thresholds of troponins into clinical practice.

Whether young patients diagnosed with OSA also are at higher risk of developing subsequent cardiovascular disease is uncertain. We aimed to estimate the risk of developing an incident cardiovascular event among young patients diagnosed with OSA.

However, survivors managed with ECPR are at risk of poor functional status. The purpose of this study was to investigate return to work (RTW) after refractory OHCA.

Background: Current guidelines recommend that relatives of index patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) are offered clinical investigations to identify individuals at risk of adverse disease complications and sudden cardiac death. However, the value of family screening in relatives of index patients with a normal genetic investigation of recognized HCM genes is largely unknown.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to perform family screening among relatives of HCM index patients with a normal genetic investigation to establish the frequency of familial disease and the clinical characteristics of affected individuals.
Background Pregnancy loss has been associated with myocardial infarction, stroke, and all-cause mortality in women through unknown mechanisms. The aim of this study was to examine these associations in women and their male partners. Methods and Results In this register-based cohort study, all people born between 1957 and 1997, residing in Denmark between 1977 and 2017, and with a registered partner of the opposite sex were eligible for inclusion.

Background New-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) develops in approximately one-third of patients undergoing cardiac surgery and is associated with a higher incidence of ischemic stroke and increased mortality. However, it remains unknown to what extent ischemic stroke events in patients with POAF are cardioembolic and whether anticoagulant therapy is indicated. We investigated the long-term risk and pathogenesis of postoperative stroke in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting experiencing POAF.

Background And Aims: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is present in 13% of atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. In patients diagnosed with both AF and COPD, we aimed to assess overall mortality risk and its association with temporal sequence in AF and COPD diagnosis.
Methods: This nationwide study assessed all patients aged 18-85 years diagnosed with both COPD and AF between 1999 and 2018 in Denmark.

Background Little is known about how COVID-19 influenced engagement of citizen responders dispatched to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) by a smartphone application. The objective was to describe and analyze the Danish Citizen Responder Program and bystander interventions (both citizen responders and nondispatched bystanders) during the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. Methods and Results All OHCAs from January 1, 2020, to June 30, 2020, with citizen responder activation in 2 regions of Denmark were included.

Introduction: People with type 2 diabetes have increased risk of dementia. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists (RAs) are among the promising therapies for repurposing as a treatment for Alzheimer's disease; a key unanswered question is whether they reduce dementia incidence in people with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: We assessed exposure to GLP-1 RAs in patients with type 2 diabetes and subsequent diagnosis of dementia in two large data sources with long-term follow-up: pooled data from three randomized double-blind placebo-controlled cardiovascular outcome trials (15,820 patients) and a nationwide Danish registry-based cohort (120,054 patients).

Background Our objective was to investigate stroke severity and subsequent rate of mortality among patients with and without atrial fibrillation (AF). Contemporary data on stroke severity and prognosis in patients with AF are lacking. Methods and Results First-time ischemic stroke patients from the Danish Stroke Registry (January 2005-December 2016) were included in an observational study.

Whether influenza vaccination may reduce mortality in patients with hypertension is currently unknown. Methods and Results We performed a nationwide cohort study including all patients with hypertension in Denmark during 9 consecutive influenza seasons in the period 2007 to 2016 who were prescribed at least 2 different classes of antihypertensive medication (renin-angiotensin system inhibitors, diuretics, calcium antagonists, or beta-blockers).

Background: Based on their renal excretion, direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) may increase the risk of hematuria in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and urologic cancer compared with vitamin K antagonists.
Objectives: To examine the risk of bleeding associated with DOAC versus warfarin in patients with AF and urologic cancer.
Methods: We conducted a Danish nationwide cohort study with individually linked registry data on patients with AF and active or a history of urologic cancer.
Background It remains challenging to identify patients at risk of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). We aimed to examine health care contacts in patients before OHCA compared with the general population that did not experience an OHCA. Methods and Results Patients with OHCA with a presumed cardiac cause were identified from the Danish Cardiac Arrest Registry (2001-2014) and their health care contacts (general practitioner [GP]/hospital) were examined up to 1 year before OHCA.

The aim of this study was to estimate the effects of NOAC versus warfarin on thromboembolism and major bleeding among AF patients with aortic stenosis. Methods and Results We emulated a target trial using observational data from Danish nationwide registries between 2013 and 2018.

Specifically, the relevance of food sources of SFAs to CHD associations is uncertain. Methods and Results We conducted a case-cohort study involving 10 529 incident CHD cases and a random subcohort of 16 730 adults selected from a cohort of 385 747 participants in 9 countries of the EPIC (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition) study.

Background There are limited data on the lifetime risk of heart failure (HF) in people with type 2 diabetes and how incidence has changed over time. We estimated the cumulative incidence and incidence rates of HF among Danish adults with type 2 diabetes between 1995 and 2018 using nationwide data. Methods and Results In total, 398 422 patients (49% women) with type 2 diabetes were identified.

Methods and Results Using Danish nationwide databases between 2010 and 2018, we followed patients with new-onset HFrEF treated with either carvedilol or metoprolol for all-cause mortality until the end of 2018. Follow-up started 120 days after initial HFrEF diagnosis to allow initiation of guideline-directed medical therapy.
