This study explores the therapeutic potential of albumin-bound Zn(II)-thiosemicarbazone compounds (Alb-ZnTcA, Alb-ZnTcB) against breast cancer cells. Previous research indicates that these compounds hinder cancer cell proliferation by blocking DNA synthesis, promoting oxidative stress to induce apoptosis, and disrupting the cell cycle to inhibit cellular division. This study focuses on the loading and characterization of these potentially chemically unstable compounds on bovine serum albumin-based nanocarriers.

Background: Endometrial cancer remains a significant health concern, with type 1 endometrial cancer characterized by aberrant expression of estrogen-dependent and mTOR pathway proteins. In this study, we evaluated the effects of two novel hydrazone derivatives against the Ishikawa cell line, a model for endometrial cancer.
Methods: Two novel hydrazone derivatives, MVB1 and MVB2, were synthesized and characterized.
Plasmonics and superhydrophobicity have garnered broad interest from academics and industry alike, spanning fundamental scientific inquiry and practical technological applications. Plasmonic activity and superhydrophobicity rely heavily on nanostructured surfaces, providing opportunities for their mutually beneficial integration. Engineering surfaces at microscopic and nanoscopic length scales is necessary to achieve superhydrophobicity and plasmonic activity.

Rapid progressing non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma (NSCLC) decreases treatment success. Cannabinoids emerge as drug candidates for NSCLC due to their anti-tumoral capabilities. We previously reported the controlled release of Arachidonylcyclopropylamide (ACPA) selectively targeting cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptor in NSCLC cells in vitro.

Nanofibers are among the promising platforms for efficient delivery of drugs (both hydrophilic and hydrophobic) through harnessing polymers with different natures as their base. Hydrophobic low-solubility agents such as curcumin could be incorporated in various types of electrospun nanofibers for different aims in drug delivery, such as enhancing its solubility, making this agent sustained release with improved pharmacological efficacy. Through using this nanoplatform, curcumin may become more bioavailable and more efficcious in the field of cancer therapy as well as tissue engineering and wound healing for local delivery of this anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent.

As one of the most common solid pediatric cancers, Neuroblastoma (NBL) accounts for 15% of all of the cancer-related mortalities in infants with increasing incidence all around the world. Despite current therapeutic approaches for NBL (radiotherapies, surgeries, and chemotherapies), these approaches could not be beneficial for all of patients with NBL due to their low effectiveness, and some severe side effects. These challenges lead basic medical scientists and clinical specialists toward an optimal medical interventions for clinical management of NBL.

In this study, Diels-Alder reaction was performed to sulfolene and endo/exo-diacetate compounds. After a series of reactions, new conduritol A and F analogs containing oxo-bridge and naphthalene rings in their structures were synthesized. To the starting compound, bromination, elimination, singlet oxygen reaction, acetylation, selective oxidation with osmium tetroxide (OsO), and m-chloroperbenzoic acid (m-CPBA), re-acetylation, and finally hydrolysis of the compounds by NH(g)/MeOH reactions were carried out.

This study examines the hemocompatibility of gellan-gum-based hybrid hydrogels, with varying gellan-gum concentrations and constant sodium alginate and silk fibroin concentrations, respectively, in accordance with ISO 10993-4 standards. While previous studies have focused on cytocompatibility, the hemocompatibility of these hydrogels remains underexplored. Hydrogels were formulated with 0.

Uniform, mesoporous copper(II) oxide nanospindles (CuO NSs) were synthesized via a method based on templated hydrothermal oxidation of copper in the presence of monodisperse poly(glycerol dimethacrylate--methacrylic acid) nanoparticles (poly(GDMA--MAA) NPs). Subsequent decoration of CuO NSs with a CaO nanoshell (CuO@CaO NSs) yielded a nanozyme capable of Cu(I)/Cu(II) redox cycling. Activation of the Cu(I)/Cu(II) cycle by exogenously generated HO from the CaO nanoshell significantly enhanced glutathione (GSH) depletion.

Due to current challenges in the early detection, less than 40% of individuals diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are viable candidates for surgical intervention. Therefore, validating and launching of a novel precise diagnostic approach is essential for early diagnosis. Based on developing evidence using circulating tumor cells and their derivatives, circulating miRNAs, and extracellular vesicles (EVs), liquid biopsy may offer a reliable platform for the HCC's early diagnosis.

Aims: Urinary tract infections are one of the most common reasons for antibiotic prescription. The widespread use of antibiotic treatments contributes to the global health problem of antimicrobial resistance development. To slow down the progression of antimicrobial resistance, it is essential that we explore nonantibiotic preventive treatments for this common condition.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous hematological malignancy caused by disorders in stem cell differentiation and excessive proliferation resulting in clonal expansion of dysfunctional cells called myeloid blasts. The combination of chemotherapeutic agents with natural product-based molecules is promising in the treatment of AML. In this study, we aim to investigate the anti-cancer effect of Rapamycin and Niacin combination on THP-1 and NB4 AML cell lines.

G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling is terminated by arrestin binding to a phosphorylated receptor. Binding propensity has been shown to be modulated by stabilizing the pre-activated state of arrestin through point mutations or C-tail truncation. Here, we hypothesize that pre-activated rotated states can be stabilized by small molecules, and this can promote binding to phosphorylation-deficient receptors, which underly a variety of human disorders.

The development of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) has been highly successful in recent decades. It is now widely accepted that early initiation of DMTs after disease onset is associated with a better long-term prognosis. However, the question of when and how to de-escalate or discontinue DMTs remains open and critical.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications in digital health, bioengineering, and society have significant material impacts on the environment owing to AI's vast energy demands and energy consumption, carbon footprints, and water usage to cool data centers and generate electricity to power the data centers. Yet, the environmental footprints of AI remain underappreciated and inadequately acknowledged. This is significant, particularly in this era of climate emergency and ongoing threats to planetary energy and water supplies.

The extracellular matrix (ECM) of spinal meninge tissue closely resembles the wealthy ECM content of the brain and spinal cord. The ECM is typically acquired through the process of decellularizing tissues. Nevertheless, the decellularization process of the brain and spinal cord is challenging due to their high-fat content, in contrast to the spinal meninges.
