Background: The expanding number of parotid ablations, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeries of the head and neck, considerably increased the risk of the marginal mandibular branch (MMB) injury. The purpose of our study was to determine the anatomical peculiarities of the MMB depending on the facial nerve branching pattern (FNBP), gender and cephalometric type.
Materials And Methods: The MMB was dissected on 75 hemiheads of adult embalmed cadavers.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory disease of the large intestine that is characterized by diarrhea, bloody stools, abdominal pain and mucosal ulceration. UC is treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids or immunosuppressants, but long-term use of these drugs can cause adverse effects. is used as a traditional treatment for digestive system disorders, but its use for treatment of UC has not been investigated rigorously.

Introduction: Blood purification therapy is a method used to enable cytokine removal and to improve disturbed immune homeostasis in patients with sepsis or septic shock. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of HA 330 treatment on biochemical and hemodynamic parameters and cytokine levels in adult patients with septic shock.
Methods: Critically ill patients with septic shock who received continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration and HA 330 treatment were included in this prospective observational study.
Long COVID, a condition characterized by symptom and/or sign persistence following an acute COVID-19 episode, is associated with reduced physical performance and endothelial dysfunction. Supplementation of l-arginine may improve endothelial and muscle function by stimulating nitric oxide synthesis. A single-blind randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted in adults aged between 20 and 60 years with persistent fatigue attending a post-acute COVID-19 outpatient clinic.

This study aims to fully exploit the natural compound; bee venom (BV) as a substance that can kill and inhibit the growth of microbes and viruses. For this target, BV was loaded onto a safe, natural, and economically inexpensive polymer; chitosan (Ch) in its nano-size form prepared using ionic gelation method in the presence of chemical crosslinking agent (sodium tripolyphosphate; TPP). The findings illustrated that chitosan nanoparticles (ChNPs) were prepared thru this method and exhibited spherical shape and average hydrodynamic size of 202 nm with a polydispersity index (PDI = 0.

Introduction: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of thymoquinone (TQ) on oxidative stress and apolipoprotein E (ApoE) in an experimental Alzheimer's model created with AlCl3 and D-galactose in rats.
Methods: Thirty-six Wistar Albino male rats saline group (Group 1), aluminum chloride (AlCl3) + D-galactose (D-Gal) group (Group 2), AlCl3 + D-Gal + TQ group (Group 3) were divided into 3 groups. The study was completed with 33 rats.

Background: The use of umbilical venous catheters (UVCs) in the perinatal period may be associated with severe complications, including the occurrence of portal vein thrombosis (PVT).
Aim: To assess the incidence of UVC-related PVT in infants with postnatal age up to three months.
Methods: A systematic and comprehensive database searching (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science) was performed for studies from 1980 to 2020 (the search was last updated on November 28, 2020).

Background: Hypertension (HTN) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. A prompt diagnosis and treatment of hypertensive retinopathy (HR), the leading complication of HTN is pivotal for a better visual outcome. Increased blood pressure on its own cannot fully clarify the development of retinal alterations, therefore an additional pathogenetic mechanism, such as oxidative stress, might be inquired.

To analyze the glutathione antioxidant defense system changes in the tear and serum of patients with hypertensive retinopathy (HR) and to establish whether there is an interdependence between their levels and HR degree. 90 patients were split into three groups according to the Keith-Wagner-Barker grading of HR: GI-36 patients; GII-35 patients; GIII-19 patients. The concentration of reduced glutathione (GSH) and activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) in tear and serum were measured.

Aldose reductase (AR) is the first and rate-limiting enzyme of the polyol pathway, which converts glucose to sorbitol in an NADPH-dependent reaction. α-Glycosidase breaks down starch and disaccharides to glucose. Hence, inhibition of these enzymes can be regarded a considerable approach in the treatment of diabetic complications.

Background: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) with second-generation contrast agents performed 1 month after hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment is almost as sensitive as contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) in depicting the residual tumor. However, the efficacy of CEUS performed early after the procedure is still debated.
Aim: We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy (DA) of CEUS for the assessment of tumor response shortly after locoregional therapy in patients with unresectable HCC.

Background: Isoproterenol is a synthetic catecholamine that can produce diffuse myocardial necrosis at high doses. Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are involved in the development and progression of cardiovascular disease, including acute coronary syndrome. The purpose of the study was to determine the changes of serum and tissue AGE content in isoproterenol-induced acute myocardial infarction and to assess their informational character in the early diagnosis, risk stratification and prognosis of disease.

Cadmium (Cd) is a common environmental pollutant that threatens humans' and animals' health. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used drugs due to their wide therapeutic action; however, they have significant side effects. Since, under many circumstances, humans and animals may be co-exposed to Cd and NSAIDs, the current investigation was assigned to explore the intertwining relationship between Cd and NSAIDs.
