Cancer Radiother

October 2022

Francois Baclesse Cancer center. Laboratoire de Physique Corpusculaire/IN2P3-CNRS UMR 6534-ARCHADE, Unicaen-Université de Normandie, 14000 Caen, France.

Reirradiation of a tumor recurrence or second cancer in a previously irradiated area is challenging due to lack of high-quality physical, radiobiological, clinical data and inherent substantial risks of toxicity with cumulative dose and uncertain tissue recovery. Yet, major advances have been made in radiotherapy techniques, that have the potential to achieve cure while limiting severe toxicity rates, but still much research is necessary to better appraise the therapeutic index in such a complex situation.

Introduction: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is found in up to 20% adults with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). ADHD + SUD is associated with a more complex clinical presentation and poorer outcomes than each disorder alone. In the presence of SUD, adult ADHD is particularly difficult to diagnose as both disorders can mimic or hide the symptoms of each other.

Faculté de pharmacie, Université Laval ; Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux de la Capitale-Nationale (Département clinique de pharmacie, Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Québec) ; Centre de recherche CERVO, Québec.

Objectives Individuals with first-episode psychosis (FEP) are poorly represented in clinical trials leading to drug approval. As a result, there is a relative paucity of empirical data to guide the psychopharmacological treatment of these youths. This article provides a synthesis of this literature, informed by the authors' clinical experience in treating FEP over the past 25 years.

Introduction: The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic modified the functions of Primary Care (PC) teams, which were forced to focus their resources on the diagnosis and treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients. The disrupted healthcare of individuals with pre-existing mental disorders (depression or anxiety), as well as the psychological decompensation resulting from the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, may have modified the use of drugs and health resources by these patients. The aim of this study is to determine the changes in these parameters, between the 6 months prior to the lockdown (09/14/2019 to 03/15/2020) and the 6 months following its end (05/03/2020 to 11/04/2020), in a population undergoing active treatment for depression or anxiety, according to the electronic clinical record.

Article Synopsis
  • Major depressive disorder (MDD) shows high treatment resistance, leading researchers to explore the connection between omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and antidepressant response in depressed individuals.
  • A study involving 60 MDD patients assessed their PUFA levels alongside their responses to standard antidepressant treatments over 8 weeks, revealing significant differences between responders and non-responders.
  • Findings suggest that lower baseline levels of omega-3 PUFAs, along with ratios of omega-6 to omega-3, can predict how well patients will respond to antidepressants, indicating potential dietary adjustments could help manage treatment-resistant depression.

The Use of Janus Kinase Inhibitors in Axial Spondyloarthritis: Current Insights.

Pharmaceuticals (Basel)

February 2022

INSERM CIC-1431, Centre d'Investigation Clinique, Pôle Recherche, CHU de Besançon, 25000 Besançon, France.

Current pharmacological treatments of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) are limited to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and biological agents, including TNFα inhibitors and IL-17 inhibitors. Despite the availability of these agents, many patients either fail to respond adequately, lose their initial therapeutic response over time, or develop undesirable side effects, thus highlighting the need for new treatment options. Janus kinase (JAK) and signal transducers and activators of transcription (STAT) are a group of intracellular kinases that play a role in the signaling pathway induced by cytokines and certain growth factors associated with the inflammatory process of axSpA.
