Objective: This study describes the involvement and the histological alterations found in the tongues of 92 autopsied patients who died with AIDS.

Materials And Methods: Sex, age, CD4 cell count and clinical history were obtained from the files of 92 patients who died with AIDS. All the tongues were examined for macroscopical alterations and stained using H&E, Gomori-Grocott, Ziehl-Neelsen, PAS, Brow-Hopps and Mucicarmine.

Paracoccidioidomycosis of the mouth: an emerging deep mycosis.

Oral fungal infections (mycoses) have come into particular prominence since the advent of infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and recognition of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), as well as the phenomenal increase in world travel with increased exposure to infections endemic in the tropics. Paracoccidioidomycosis is a rare mycosis worldwide but common in Brazil and some other areas in Latin America. It can be life-threatening and can manifest with a spectrum of clinical presentations, including frequent oral lesions.
