In recent years, many advances have been made in surgical fields of oral and maxillofacial reconstruction, and the variety and complexity of available surgical approaches consider different functionalities of the jaw and the aesthetics of the face. There is no validated or scientifically proven basis for deciding which flap to use for reconstruction, so decisions are often made based on the direct and indirect experiential knowledge of the reconstructive surgeon. Considering the modified ladder, elevator, and pie reconstructive options, their risk and donor morbidity, and their long-term outcomes, the simplest option that will achieve the best long-term outcome in terms of form and function and with the lowest donor morbidity should be chosen for the patient's health and social welfare.

Background: Previous studies have shown that the dietary inflammatory index (DII) is associated with different health outcomes. However, few studies have investigated the relationship between DII and oral health. We aimed to assess the association between energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index (E-DII) and periodontal disease.

The images of the Quantitative Light induced Fluorescent (QLF) device, which provides both natural color images similar to those from intraoral cameras and fluorescent images using 405 nm light in a single shot, were evaluated for the validity and inter examiner reliability in detecting tooth cracks. QLF images of 26 cracked teeth before and after removing crack lines were taken. Two examiners assessed the QLF images before removing the crack line with natural color images, fluorescent images, and combination images showing both images simultaneously, and recorded the crack's location after observing images.

Background: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the efficacy of autologous platelet concentrate (APCs) in comparison with coronally-advanced flap alone or in combination with connective tissue graft or other biomaterials or bioactive agents for root coverage (RC) of Miller's Class I and II gingival recession defects by measuring the keratinized mucosa width (KMW).
Materials And Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis guidelines. An electronic search of the literature was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane, Web of Science, Magiran, Scientific Information Database, and Irandoc for randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that used APCs for RC in their intervention group.

Probiotics are known to have favorable effects on human health. Nevertheless, probiotics are not always beneficial and can cause unintended adverse effects such as bacteremia and/or inflammation in immunocompromised patients. In the present study, we investigated the effects of probiotics on the regulation of bone metabolism under different health conditions and delivery routes.

Lipoteichoic acid (LTA) and peptidoglycan (PGN) are considered as key virulence factors of , which is a representative sepsis-causing Gram-positive pathogen. However, cooperative effect of LTA and PGN on nitric oxide (NO) production is still unclear despite the pivotal roles of NO in initiation and progression of sepsis. We here evaluated the cooperative effects of LTA (SaLTA) and muramyl dipeptide (MDP), the minimal structure of PGN, on NO production in both a mouse macrophage-like cell line, RAW 264.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) hold therapeutic promise for treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) owing to their immunomodulatory properties. Currently, pre-conditioning strategies with several beneficial agents have been applied to enhance the efficacy of MSCs in treating IBDs. Probiotics are increasingly acknowledged as supplemental therapy for IBD; however, their potential benefits in MSCs-based therapy remain largely unexplored.

Subcutaneous emphysema is the accumulation of gas or air in loose subcutaneous connective tissue. The use of air-driven handpieces in dental procedures is a common iatrogenic cause of intraoral mucogingival barrier disruption by high-pressure air. This case report describes a 60-year-old woman who underwent prophylactic periodontal treatment with an air-abrasive device and subsequently developed severe bilateral subcutaneous emphysema, extending from the temporal region to the thoracic and mediastinal spaces.

Background: Preservation of a healthy periodontium is critical for the long-term success of restored teeth. In cases of extensive caries, tooth fracture, inadequate crown length, and increased esthetic demands, the restorative margins need to be placed apical to the gingival margin. Violation of the biological width due to dental trauma frequently appears in clinical practice.

Oligodontia, the absence of six or more teeth excluding third molars, is a rare genetic condition, unlike hypodontia (missing one or more teeth), which is a relatively common human disease. To identify the genetic etiology of nonsyndromic oligodontia (NSO) families, we performed mutational analysis and investigated the functional effects of identified mutations. Whole-exome sequencing was conducted on recruited families with NSO.

Bone defects present significant challenges in clinical contexts, particularly among the elderly, and are often linked to altered innate immune responses; however, underlying mechanisms remain to be understood. This study investigates immune changes in early bone healing in aged mice, emphasizing the effects of zinc in modulating inflammatory processes. By exploring the role of zinc and NETosis in this process, we seek to develop novel therapeutic strategies that could improve bone repair in aging populations.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify new susceptibility modules and genes by analyzing the transcriptional profiles of peri-implantitis and periodontitis within the same host environment, using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA).
Methods: Gingival tissue samples were collected from 10 patients, each presenting with both periodontitis and peri-implantitis sites, and were used for RNA sequencing. We conducted WGCNA to identify key modules that showed distinct transcriptional expression profiles between periodontitis and peri-implantitis.
