Background/objectives: Oral frailty, first identified in Japan in 2014, refers to a state between healthy oral function and severe decline, marked by minor issues, such as tooth loss and chewing difficulties. The oral frailty five-item checklist (OF-5) enables non-dental professionals to evaluate oral frailty using five key indicators: remaining teeth count, chewing difficulties, swallowing difficulties, dry mouth, and articulatory oral skills. Limited studies exist.

As the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, plastic usage spiked, and microplastic (MP) generation has increased dramatically. It is documented that MP can transfer from the source to the ocean environment where they accumulate as the destination. Therefore, it is essential to understand their transferring pathways and effective environmental factors to determine the distribution of MPs in the marine environment.

Objective: This study evaluated dentin morphology and pulp cavity temperature changes during nanosecond‑ and microsecond‑pulse Er, Cr: YSGG laser debonding restoration and residual adhesive.
Materials And Methods: Ten caries-free teeth had their enamel removed perpendicular to the long axis, followed by bonding of glass ceramic restorations. The samples were randomly divided into two groups and subjected to Er, Cr: YSGG laser (3 mJ, 100 Hz, 100 ns), (3 mJ, 100 Hz, 150 µs) for debonding of restoration and residual adhesive on dentin surfaces.

Future health professionals, including dentists, must critically engage with digital health technologies to enhance patient care. While digital health is increasingly being integrated into the curricula of health professions, its interpretation varies widely depending on the discipline, health care setting, and local factors. This viewpoint proposes a structured set of domains to guide the designing of a digital health curriculum tailored to the unique needs of dentistry in Australia.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and patient satisfaction of lidocaine aerosol for pain management during periodontal scaling and root planning in patients with chronic periodontitis or dental plaque-induced gingivitis. This study specifically concentrated on comparing the effectiveness of lidocaine aerosol as a topical anesthetic against a placebo, assessing its impact on pain perception during the procedure. Additionally, the relationship between periodontal treatment and the reduction of oxidative stress markers in these patients was assessed.

Dutch Clozapine Collaboration Group, Alkmaar, The Netherlands.
The European Clozapine Task Force is a group of psychiatrists and pharmacologists practicing in 18 countries under European Medicines Agency (EMA) regulation, who are deeply concerned about the underuse of clozapine in European countries. Although clozapine is the most effective antipsychotic for people with treatment-resistant schizophrenia, a large proportion of them do not have access to this treatment. Concerns about clozapine-induced agranulocytosis and stringent blood monitoring rules are major barriers to clozapine prescribing and use.

The Cayo Santiago rhesus macaque colony is a renowned primate population that has experienced significant natural and anthropogenic ecological variation in their 85-year history. Demographic and familial information is also tracked and collated for the majority of monkeys. Thus, the health history of rhesus macaques at Cayo Santiago should reflect the impacts of both environmental and genetic factors.

Breast cancer remains a significant challenge in oncology, highlighting the need for alternative therapeutic strategies that target necroptosis to overcome resistance to conventional therapies. Recent investigations into natural compounds have identified 8,12-dimethoxysanguinarine (SG-A) from Eomecon chionantha as a potential necroptosis inducer. This study presents the first computational exploration of SG-A interactions with key necroptotic proteins-RIPK1, RIPK3, and MLKL-through molecular docking, molecular dynamics (MD), density functional theory (DFT), and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) analyses.

Aims: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a novel antimicrobial gel, containing copper and silver nanoparticles, for use in root canal disinfection.
Methods: Copper and silver-based gels were created in-house, using a support network of biocompatible polymers, including polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), and polyethylene glycol (PEG). Six experimental groups were created, three containing silver ions and three copper ions, where the PVA, PVP and PEG ratios were also adjusted in each group to test the gel's physical state.

This study describes the potential of the conditioned medium (CM) from adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ASCs) to affect the response of bone cells and support bone remodeling. This was in particular assessed by an in vitro model represented by a 3D human osteoblast-osteoclast co-culture. It has been reported that the effects of ASCs are predominantly attributable to the paracrine effects of their secreted factors, that are present as soluble factors or loaded into extracellular vesicles.

Background: This study aimed to compare the effects of a carbohydrate (CHO) hydrogel with (ALG-CP) or without (ALG-C) branched-chain amino acids, and a CHO-only non-hydrogel (CON), on cycling performance. The hydrogels, encapsulated in an alginate matrix, are designed to control CHO release, potentially optimising absorption, increasing substrate utilisation, and reducing gastrointestinal distress as well as carious lesions.
Methods: In a randomised, double-blinded, crossover trial, 10 trained male cyclists/triathletes completed three experimental days separated by ~6 days.

: Caries development is associated with poor oral hygiene, inadequate dietary habits, quantitative and qualitative food content, and a high level of bacterial plaque. Physical and chemical changes in saliva composition and particularly changes in its buffering capability play a significant role in caries development. This study aimed to determine the predictors of poor oral health among a sample of second-year dental students.
