Epigenetic regulation in hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) research has emerged as a transformative molecular approach that enhances understanding of hematopoiesis and hematological disorders. This chapter investigates the intricate epigenetic mechanisms that control HSCs function, including deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) methylation, histone modifications, and chromatin remodeling. It also explores the role of non-coding ribonucleic acid (RNAs) as epigenetic regulators, highlighting how changes in gene expression can occur without alterations to the DNA sequence.

Background: In approximately 80% of colorectal cancer cases, mutations in the adenomatous polyposis coli () gene disrupt the Wingless-related integration site (Wnt)/β-catenin signaling pathway, a crucial factor in carcinogenesis. This disruption may result in consequences such as aberrant spindle segregation and mitotic catastrophe. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the ethanolic extract of red okra () pods (EEROP) in inducing apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells (SW480) by inhibiting the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Advancements in food technology have increased the need for thorough analysis to ensure food safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (CE-MS) has emerged as a powerful tool in food analysis due to its high separation efficiency, low sample consumption, and ability to handle complex matrices. However, challenges such as the use of volatile running buffers and maintaining the stability of the electrical circuit connecting the CE and MS systems have been addressed through advancements in interface designs, such as sheathless systems and optimized sheath-liquid compositions.

Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and impaired muscle recovery significantly affect athletes and recreational exercisers, influencing their performance and training consistency. Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, is thought to mitigate these effects, yet its effectiveness remains to be fully verified. This systematic review evaluates the impact of RES supplementation on muscle recovery in adults by examining its influence on DOMS, oxidative stress, and inflammation, along with its interactions with other supplements.

Background: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common aetiological agent that causes respiratory infections, especially among infants. Identifying circulating RSV genotypes is an essential strategy for understanding the spread of the virus in a certain area. Sequencing the variable regions of the attachment glycoprotein (G) gene of RSV is a quick and direct approach for identifying the genotypes.

Background: A biocompatible polymeric nanoparticle, TQ-PLGA-PF68, was developed through the interaction of the phytochemical thymoquinone (TQ) encapsulated in poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide)-b-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLGA-PEG) with Pluronics F68. So far, this combination has not been assessed on breast cancer cells resistant to anti-cancer drugs. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the cell death caused by TQ-PLGA-PF68 nanoparticles, particularly in resistant breast cancer cell lines expressing estrogen receptor (ER) positivity, such as TamR MCF-7.

The potential of large language models (LLMs) in medical applications is significant, and Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) can address the weaknesses of these models in terms of data transparency and scientific accuracy by incorporating current scientific knowledge into responses. In this study, RAG and GPT-4 by OpenAI were applied to develop GuideGPT, a context aware chatbot integrated with a knowledge database from 449 scientific publications designed to provide answers on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). A comparison was made with a generic LLM ("PureGPT") across 30 MRONJ-related questions.

Purpose: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease, in which T-Lymphocytes induce apoptosis of basal keratinocytes, leading to the formation of symptomatic lesions. It is assumed that blocking the cell death program and enhancing cell proliferation would be crucial to the healing process. The aim of the study was to verify the efficacy of Photobiomodulation (PBM) in OLP management, by evaluating the effects of laser irradiation on the processes of apoptosis and cell proliferation.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) during bed-to-wheelchair and wheelchair-to-commode transfers are a significant concern, yet prior assessments often focused on specific subtasks, overlooking potential cumulative risks. This study employed Xsens Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) and force plates integrated with an automated Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) system to provide a continuous and comprehensive evaluation of WMSDs risks associated with the use of a walking belt and a floor lift. The continuous assessment revealed peak REBA scores ranging from 8.

Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine disruptor, is linked to cancer progression in estrogen-responsive tissues, but its role in promoting colorectal cancer (CRC) progression in the context of obesity remains underexplored. This study examines BPA's influence on CRC in obese Sprague-Dawley rats using network toxicology and experimental models. Computational analysis using the Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery identified pathways such as "CRC" and "chemical carcinogenesis-receptor activation", implicating the PI3K-AKT pathway in IL-1 beta upregulation and BPA's role in CRC during obesity.
