Perfect synchrony is highly prosocial, yet interpersonal rhythms globally exhibit rich variation. In two online experiments, we tested the effect of varying interpersonal rhythms on self-other merging. First, we hypothesized that shared temporal features, acting as attentional frameworks to track and integrate self-other actions, would drive combined representations.

Accurately predicting the vulnerabilities of species to climate change requires a more detailed understanding of the functional and life-history traits that make some species more susceptible to declines and extinctions in shifting climates. This is because existing trait-based correlates of extinction risk from climate and environmental disturbances vary widely, often being idiosyncratic and context dependent. A powerful solution is to analyse the growing volume of biological data on changes in species ranges and abundances using process-explicit ecological models that run at fine temporal and spatial scales and across large geographical extents.

Across the last ~50,000 years (the late Quaternary) terrestrial vertebrate faunas have experienced severe losses of large species (megafauna), with most extinctions occurring in the Late Pleistocene and Early to Middle Holocene. Debate on the causes has been ongoing for over 200 years, intensifying from the 1960s onward. Here, we outline criteria that any causal hypothesis needs to account for.

Background: Limited literature is available to guide surgeons on which patients with insertional Achilles tendinopathy (IAT) may be the best candidates for minimally invasive dorsal closing wedge calcaneal Zadek osteotomy (MIS ZO). We hypothesized that the severity of IAT on preoperative magnetic resonance image (MRI) may correlate with post-operative functional outcomes and help guide patient selection for treatment with MIS ZO.
Methods: Patients who underwent MIS ZO for IAT ± Haglund deformity were identified and retrospectively analyzed.

The introduction of antibiotic-resistant bacteria into riverine systems through the discharge of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent and agricultural waste poses significant health risks. Even when not pathogenic, these bacteria can act as reservoirs for antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), transferring them to pathogens that infect humans and animals. In this study, we used fluorescence hybridization, qPCR, and metagenomics to investigate how anthropogenic activities affect microbial abundance and the resistome along the Holtemme River, a small river in Germany, from near-pristine to human-impacted sites.

Background: To address the unique challenges faced by refugees diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), psychotherapy needs to be personalized. The integration of self-tracking instruments into therapy offers a promising approach to personalizing treatment. This feasibility pilot study develops and explores a preliminary self-tracking assisted treatment concept using a wearable self-tracking instrument called the One Button Tracker (OBT).

Isolated, perfused hearts are viable for hours outside the body, and important research findings have been made using mouse hearts ex vivo. In the Langendorff perfusion mode, the coronary tree is perfused via retrograde flow of a perfusate down the ascending aorta. Although the Langendorff setup is generally simpler and quicker to establish, the working heart mode allows the heart to function in a more physiologically relevant manner, where the perfusate is directed into the left ventricle via the left atrium.

Aims: Sleep difficulties among adolescents are of a significant concern given its associations with adverse health outcomes. The aims of the present study were to examine trends and predictors of self-perceived difficulties in getting to sleep among adolescents in the Nordic countries.
Methods: The study was based on cross-sectional data from 10- to 17- year-olds ( = 139,799) from six Nordic countries (Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Greenland, and Finland) participating in the international Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study, collected via six survey rounds in the period 2002-2018.

The Arctic is warming faster than the global average, making it critical to understand how this affects ecological structure and function in streams, which are key Arctic ecosystems. Microbial biofilms are crucial for primary production and decomposition in Arctic streams and support higher trophic levels. However, comprehensive studies across Arctic regions, and in particular within Greenland, are scarce.

The liver serves as a major energetic reservoir for other tissues and its metabolic function is controlled by humoral and neural factors. The vagus nerve innervating the gastrointestinal tract plays an important role in regulating peripheral metabolism and energy expenditure. Although the liver receives vagus nerve fibers, the impact of this circuitry in the regulation of hepatic metabolism is still poorly understood.

Genetics and epigenetics are mechanisms proposed for explaining post-COVID-19 condition. This secondary analysis aimed to investigate if DNA methylation levels of the ACE2 promoter are different depending on the genotype of five COVID-19-related polymorphisms in individuals who had been previously hospitalized due to SARS-CoV-2 infection. We collected non-stimulated saliva samples from 279 (48.

Afferent vagal neurons convey gut-brain signals related to the mechanical and chemical sensing of nutrients, with the latter also mediated by gut hormones secreted from enteroendocrine cells. Cell bodies of these neurons are located in the nodose ganglia (NG), with the right NG playing a key role in metabolic regulation. Notably, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP1R) neurons primarily innervate the muscle layer of the stomach, distant from glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)-secreting gut cells.

: Many tropical diseases such as malaria, Chagas, human African Trypanosomiasis, and Lymphatic filariasis coexist in endemic countries, affecting more than 1 billion people worldwide, and are recognised as major global vector-borne diseases. Tackling this disease requires an accurate diagnosis that is sensitive, specific, and rapid. This study aimed to describe and validate a new highly sensitive and specific multiple-analysis system that can effectively detect numerous etiological agents in a single test.

: We reviewed data from the Western Danish Heart Registry (WDHR), which collects mandatory information on heart surgeries in Western Denmark, to validate cases with aortic root replacement (ARR) and assess the validity of registered data for all recorded cases. : Patients registered in the WDHR with Danish Health Care Classification System (SKS) codes KFC and KFM from January 1999 to April 2022 were reviewed using electronic medical records. All patients who underwent ARR were included, and clinical data from the WDHR were adjudicated against electronic medical records.

: Pneumonitis caused by radiotherapy for lung cancer may be missed since it often occurs only several months later. In a previous trial including patients of any age, a scoring system was tested to facilitate the correct diagnosis of radiation pneumonitis. Since elderly lung cancer patients have a greater risk of developing this complication, a separate scoring system for this group appears useful.

Purpose: This study aimed to select robust features against lung motion in a phantom study and use them as input to feature selection algorithms and machine learning classifiers in a clinical study to predict the lymphovascular invasion (LVI) of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The results of robust features were also compared with conventional techniques without considering the robustness of radiomic features.
Methods: An in-house developed lung phantom was developed with two 22mm lesion sizes based on a clinical study.

Parkinson's disease and dementia are highly stigmatized, creating social exclusion and inequality by depriving persons living with these conditions of their human rights and threatening their health, well-being, and quality of life. Challenging the stigma associated with these conditions is a key public health priority across national and international settings, and arts-based approaches are advocated to achieve this. We are researchers who use artistic and creative media including documentary films, research-based theatre, dance, circus and graphic narrative to challenge dominant and oppressive cultural and social norms, and to imagine and affect inclusive, compassionate, and socially-just approaches to supporting people to live well with neurodegenerative conditions like dementia and Parkinson's.
