Impact of emerging hepatitis C virus treatments on future needs for liver transplantation in France: a modelling approach.

Dig Liver Dis

February 2014

Inserm U995, University of Lille Nord de France, Lille, France; Hepatology Unit, Claude Huriez Hospital, CHRU Lille, Lille, France. Electronic address:

Background: In light of the impact of emerging hepatitis C virus treatments on morbidity and mortality, we sought to determine whether candidates for liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma and decompensated cirrhosis will decrease sufficiently to match liver grafts for hepatitis C virus-infected patients.

Aims: Using a Markov model, we quantified future liver graft needs for hepatitis C virus-induced diseases and estimated the impact of current and emerging treatments.

Methods: We simulated progression of yearly-hepatitis-C-virus-infected cohorts from the beginning of the epidemic and calculated 2013-2022 candidates for liver transplantation up until 2022 without and with therapies.

Objective: Tissue activation of proteolysis is involved in acute intramural rupture (dissections, acute ascending aortic dissection) and in progressive dilation (aneurysms, thoracic aneurysm of the ascending aorta) of human ascending aorta. The translational aim of this study was to characterize the regulation of antiproteolytic serpin expression in normal, aneurysmal, and dissecting aorta.

Approach And Results: We explored expression of protease nexin-1 (PN-1) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and their regulation by the Smad2 signaling pathway in human tissue and cultured vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) of aneurysms (thoracic aneurysm of the ascending aorta; n=46) and acute dissections (acute ascending aortic dissection; n=10) of the ascending aorta compared with healthy aortas (n=10).

Wnt/β-catenin signaling and Msx1 promote outgrowth of the maxillary prominences.

Front Physiol

October 2012

Department of Orthodontics, Service of Odontology, Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, AP-HP, Paris 7 - Denis Diderot University, U.F.R. of Odontology Paris, France.

Facial morphogenesis requires a series of precisely orchestrated molecular events to promote the growth and fusion of the facial prominences. Cleft palate (CP) results from perturbations in this process. The transcriptional repressor Msx1 is a key participant in these molecular events, as demonstrated by the palatal clefting phenotype observed in Msx1(-/-) embryos.
