Background: Whether therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of infliximab should be implemented in daily practice is an ongoing controversy.

Masticatory Capacity and Mortality: The Preventive and Clinical Investigation Center (IPC) Cohort Study.

J Dent Res

February 2020

Department of Periodontology, Service of Odontology, Rothschild Hospital, AP-HP, Paris 7, Denis Diderot University, U.F.R. of Odontology, Paris, France.

Poor oral health (OH) has been associated with mortality, but the association between OH components and mortality remains imprecise. The present observational study aimed to investigate if there is an association between oral masticatory efficiency and cardiovascular (CV) mortality in a large French subject cohort. The study was based on a cohort of 85,830 subjects aged between 16 and 94 y at recruitment.

Objective: There is a relationship between RA and periodontal disease. We aimed to investigate if a good oral hygiene could improve activity of RA.

Methods: The patients with RA according to ACR/EULAR 2010 criteria and included in the French early arthritis ESPOIR cohort were included in a randomized nested study into: (i) intervention group: general recommendations of good oral hygiene including teeth brushing, daily antiseptic mouthwash and twice a year scaling; and (ii) control group: no intervention.

European survey on criteria of aesthetics for periodontal evaluation: The ESCAPE study.

J Clin Periodontol

November 2019

Department of Periodontology, Service of Odontology, Rothschild Hospital, AP-HP, Paris 7-Denis Diderot University, U.F.R of Odontology, Paris, France.

Objective: The ESCAPE multicentre survey was designed to (a) compare the agreement of three relevant aesthetic scoring systems among different centres, and (b) evaluate the reproducibility of each question of the questionnaires.

Materials And Methods: EFP centres (n = 14) were involved in an e-survey. Forty-two participants (28 teachers, 14 postgraduate students) were asked to score the one-year aesthetic outcomes of photographs using the Before-After Scoring System (BASS), the Pink Esthetic Score (PES) and the Root coverage Esthetic Score (RES).

The receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (RAGE) is critically involved in the pathobiology of chronic inflammatory diseases. Soluble forms of RAGE have been proposed as biomarkers of severity in inflammatory and metabolic conditions, and in monitoring therapeutic responses. The aim of the present study was to determine circulating levels of the soluble forms of RAGE in periodontitis and to evaluate the expression of cell-bound, full-length RAGE and its antagonist AGER1 locally, in gingival tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how creating a left-to-right interatrial shunt affects pulmonary blood flow in rats with heart failure but preserved ejection fraction (HFPEF).
  • Researchers conducted experiments on 11 healthy rats and 11 rats with HFPEF, comparing their results with sham-operated controls over 60 days.
  • Findings showed that the shunt improved diastolic function, reduced left atrial volume, and increased elastin density and eNOS protein expression, although it also suggested potential risks for right volume overload and pulmonary hypertension.

Electronic address:

Objective: Drug coated balloons (DCB) improve the patency of femoropopliteal angioplasty but their use in infrapopliteal lesions is debateable as paclitaxel (PTX) particle embolisation has been suspected in some trials. The aim of this study was to compare experimentally five DCBs in terms of distal embolism of PTX.

Methods: Twenty-five New Zealand rabbits were divided into five groups according to the DCB used: Lutonix (Bard), In.

Background and Purpose- Low ankle-brachial index (ABI) identifies a stroke subgroup with high risk of recurrent stroke, cardiovascular events, and death. However, limited data exist on the relationship between low ABI and stroke in low and middle-income countries. Therefore, we evaluated the prevalence of ABI ≤0.

Department of Neurology and Stroke Center, Centre Hospitalier de Versailles, Versailles, France; Versailles Saint-Quentin en Yvelines and Paris Saclay University, Versailles, France; INSERM LVTS (Laboratory for Vascular Translational Science)-1148, Paris, France. Electronic address:

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine whether individual operator characteristics have an impact on reperfusion and procedural complication rates.

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is a Level IA treatment in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. The operator's effect has been found to be an independent predictor for clinical outcome and technical performance in interventional cardiology.

Can Periodontitis Influence the Progression of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm? A Systematic Review.

Angiology

July 2019

6 Dental Biomaterials Research Unit, Head of Clinic, Department of Periodontology and Oral Surgery, University of Liège, Liège, Belgium.

There is some evidence that periodontitis increases the risk of atherothrombosis. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a cardiovascular disease with specific risk factors and physiopathological mechanisms that can lead to rupture in the absence of treatment. The aim of the present systematic review was to explore the influence of periodontitis on the progression of AAAs as a specific disease.

Background: The number of obese patients who are candidates for renal transplantation has considerably increased, but obesity can be a barrier to kidney transplantation. Weight loss is often difficult through diet alone. We studied the efficacy and tolerance of the intra-gastric balloon (IGB) procedure in obese patients who were undergoing dialysis and were candidates for a renal transplantation.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Nat Rev Dis Primers

October 2018

Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a localized dilatation of the infrarenal aorta. AAA is a multifactorial disease, and genetic and environmental factors play a part; smoking, male sex and a positive family history are the most important risk factors, and AAA is most common in men >65 years of age. AAA results from changes in the aortic wall structure, including thinning of the media and adventitia due to the loss of vascular smooth muscle cells and degradation of the extracellular matrix.

Background: Mothers and infants are exposed to multiple stresses when cardiac surgery is required for the infant. This study reviewed infant responsiveness using a standardized objective observational measure of social withdrawal and explored its association with measures of maternal distress.

Methods: Mother-infant pairs involving infants surviving early cardiac surgery were assessed when the infant was aged two months.

Background And Purpose: Recent single-center series and meta-analyses suggest that mechanical thrombectomy (MT) without prior intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) might be equally effective to bridging therapy. We analyzed, within the Endovascular Treatment in Ischemic Stroke (ETIS) prospective observational registry, the angiographic and clinical outcomes after IVT+MT versus MT alone.

Methods: From December 2012 to December 2016, a total of 1,507 consecutive patients with a proximal arterial occlusion of the anterior circulation were treated by MT.

Increased risk of ADHD in families with ASD.

Eur Child Adolesc Psychiatry

February 2019

Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Robert Debré Hospital, APHP, Paris, France.

Attention Deficit and Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are frequent comorbid neurodevelopmental conditions and the overlap between both disorders remains to be delineated. A more complete understanding of the shared genetic and environmental factors is needed. Using a family-based method, we evaluated the risk of ADHD in a group of relatives with an ASD proband (ASD-) and a group of relatives with an ASD and ADHD proband (ASD+).
