Among the IVCAs reported in the literature, only a few are associated with congenital vascular anomalies, including congenital IVC obstruction, tetralogy of Fallot, left-sided IVC, duplicated IVC, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome, and Klipper-Trenaunay syndrome. The gut microbiome, which comprises symbiotic bacteria colonizing the human digestive tract, undergoes dynamic changes during the lifespan, as evidenced by the fact that the number of species and the diversity of their composition decrease significantly with age. The aim of this review is to illuminate bilateral neuroimmunological pathways that determine the role of gut microbiome dysbiosis, not only as a cause but also as a byproduct of many neurodegenerative diseases of the CNS, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD), but also in the frame of several behavioral and psychiatric pathological conditions such as depressive and anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dysbiosis, in particular, reveals a model of "deceptive" mimicry of host molecules that might cause abnormal folding ("misfolding") and pathological aggregation of Aβ-peptide, leading to its dispersion through the gut-brain axis, precipitating microglia cell activation.

Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination in the Health Sector: a Comparative Approach Between the Greek and American Examples.

A few months after national vaccination campaigns were initiated around early 2021, the discussion regarding the mandatory vaccination of healthcare workers started gaining ground in most European states and also in the United States. The debate on whether healthcare workers should be required to be vaccinated has been fueled by three main reasons: the high transmissibility rate of the Delta variant, which posed a significant risk to national healthcare systems across Europe and the Americas, as well placing high pressure on intensive care units even in the summer months (a); states' inability to impose general lockdowns and social distancing measures during the 2022 winter due to financial hardship and fears of an ongoing recession (b); and governmental unwillingness to implement restrictive measures, having in mind their populations' tiredness from previous lockdowns (c). This paper will explore the legal and managerial implications of mandatory vaccination among healthcare workers and will argue that it has the capacity to be a successful part of effective national healthcare systems in the search for responsible professionals to staff them.

The latest advances in asthma treatment have highlighted the significance of eosinophilia and the possible role of some pro-eosinophilic mediators, like interleukins (IL) IL-5, IL-4/IL-13, and IL-33 in the disease's pathogenesis. Considering that a subgroup of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may have blood eosinophilia akin to that seen in asthma, numerous studies in the last decade have suggested that eosinophilic COPD is a separate entity. While the exact role of blood eosinophils in the pathophysiology of COPD remains unclear, eosinophilia seems to increase the effectiveness of corticosteroid therapy.
