Purpose: To evaluate the neuroprotective effects of Rilmenidine on diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in a rat model of diabetes induced by streptozotocin (STZ).

Methods: STZ (60 mg/kg) was administered to adult Sprague-Dawley rats to induce diabetes. On the 30th day after STZ administration, electromyography (EMG) and motor function tests confirmed the presence of DPN.

Neoadjuvant intermediate-course versus long-course chemoradiotherapy in T3-4/N0+ rectal cancer: Istanbul R-02 phase II randomized study.

Radiation therapy (RT) is typically applied using one of two standard approaches for preoperative treatment of resectable locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC): short-course RT (SC-RT) alone or long-course RT (LC-RT) with concurrent fluorouracil (5-FU) chemotherapy. The Phase II single-arm KROG 11-02 study using intermediate-course (IC) (33 Gy (Gray)/10 fr (fraction) with concurrent capecitabine) preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) demonstrated a pathologically complete response rate and a sphincter-sparing rate that were close to those of LC-CRT. The current trial aim to compare the pathological/oncological outcomes, toxicity, and quality of life results of LC-CRT and IC-CRT in cases of LARC.

Chronic Kidney Disease Management in the Middle East and Africa: Concerns, Challenges, and Novel Approaches.

The burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and other comorbidities, such as hypertension and diabetes, which increase the risk of developing CKD, is on the rise in the Middle East and Africa. The Middle East and Africa CKD (MEA-CKD) steering committee, comprising eminent healthcare specialists from the Middle East and Africa, was formed to identify and propose steps to address the gaps in the management of CKD in these regions. The current article lists the MEA-CKD steering committee meeting outcomes and evaluates the available evidence supporting the role of novel therapeutic options for patients with CKD.

Torasemide Improves the Propionic Acid-Induced Autism in Rats: A Histopathological and Imaging Study.

Objective: Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disease in which impaired social behaviors, impaired sociality, and restricted and repetitive behaviors are seen. Bumetanide is a loop diuretic that inhibits Na-K-2Cl cotransporter 1 and it is currently used in clinical phase studies in patients with autism spectrum disorder. In present research, it is purposed to demonstrate the beneficial effects of torasemide which is another Na-K-2Cl cotransporter 1 inhibitor on an experimental autism model induced with propionic acid by providing imaging and brain tissue investigations.

Pushing the boundaries of minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum: first experience with a 4-bar technique.

Comparison of High Hip Center versus Anatomical Reconstruction Technique in Crowe Types II and III Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip: a Retrospective Clinical Study.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The literature is conflicting as to whether the high hip center (HHC) reconstruction in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an ideal option for patients with severe developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). This study aimed to compare the mid-term functional and radiographic outcomes of THA using HHC versus anatomical hip center (AHC) technique in Crowe types II and III DDH. Our hypothesis was that there may be no differences in terms of functional and radiographic outcomes between patients who underwent THA using HHC or AHC.

Objective: Basal ganglia structures play an important role in the pathophysiology of absence epilepsy, known as remote control of absence seizures. We examined the role of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic pathway in absence epilepsy through behavioral and electroencephalography (EEG) parameters, immunohistochemical, and biochemical characteristics of dopamine and serotonin in the genetic absence epilepsy rat model.

Methods: The nigrostriatal pathway was degenerated by the injection of chemical 6-hydroxydopamine hydrobromide (6-OHDA) into the medial forebrain bundle (MFB) in Wistar and genetic absence epilepsy rats from Strasbourg (GAERS).

The effect of sulfasalazine in pentylenetetrazole-induced seizures in rats.

We aimed to reveal the anti-convulsant effects sulfasalazine and its mechanism in pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced seizures in rats. Forty-eight male Wistar albino rats (200-250 g) were randomly divided into two groups: 24 for electroencephalography (EEG) recording (group A) and 24 for behavioral studies (group B). About 70 mg/kg PTZ was used for behavioral studies after sulfasalazine administration and 35 mg/kg PTZ was used for EEG recording after sulfasalazine administration.

Risk factors for diabetic foot ulcers in metreleptin naïve patients with lipodystrophy.

Aim: Patients with lipodystrophy are at high risk for chronic complications of diabetes. Recently, we have reported 18 diabetic foot ulcer episodes in 9 subjects with lipodystrophy. This current study aims to determine risk factors associated with foot ulcer development in this rare disease population.

Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a health problem that has increasing importance in society. In the literature, many studies about an audition in patients with OSAS are present. In this study, the effects of hypoxia on an audition that develop during the apnea attacks in OSAS were investigated experimentally.

C-Reactive Protein, Fibrinogen, Leptin, and Adiponectin Levels in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Background And Aim: We aimed to compare the levels of clinical, biochemical, hormonal, and metabolic parameters as well as serum CRP, fibrinogen, leptin, and adiponectin in cases with PCOS and control group to investigate whether they play a role in the etiology of the syndrome.

Materials And Methods: The present study included a total of 90 subjects, 45 subjects were diagnosed with PCOS (= 45) and 45 subjects served as control group (= 45). Serum CRP, fibrinogen, leptin, and adiponectin levels were analyzed for each subject.

The effects of and gene polymorphisms on warfarin maintenance dose in Turkish cardiac patients.

Our aim was to examine the effect of and polymorphisms on warfarin dose requirements in Turkish patients. 24 warfarin prescribed patients were included and analyzed for eight and 6 polymorphisms in the study. Patients with *1/*1 and -1639 GG and GA genotypes required higher warfarin doses in comparison to wild type genotype.

Post-operative N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide predicts in-hospital mortality after living donor liver transplantation.

Objective: The post-operative serum level of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) has been found to be associated with post-operative cardiovascular complications and mortality in high-risk surgeries. The usefulness of the post-operative NT-proBNP level as a predictor of mortality after liver transplantation (LT) is unknown.

Methods: The records of patients at a single, tertiary university hospital who had undergone adult living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) with data of post-operative NT-proBNP level values were retrospectively analyzed for in-hospital mortality.
