Unlabelled: Hazardous heavy metals, particularly cadmium (Cd), are widely distributed in the environment and cause oxidative stress in various animal and human organs. Clove oil (CLO), a common aromatic spice, has been used as a traditional medication as it has potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective properties.

Background/objectives: This study aimed to investigate the antioxidant, antiapoptotic, and anti-inflammatory effects of clove oil (CLO) against hepatorenal toxicity induced by cadmium (Cd).

Different types of cancers affect the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), starting from the oral cavity and extending to the colon. In general, most of the current research focuses on the systemic delivery of the therapeutic agents, which leads to undesired side effects and a limited enhancement in the therapeutic outcomes. As a result, localized delivery within gastrointestinal (GI) cancers is favorable in overcoming these limitations.

Heart disease is a category of various conditions that affect the heart, which includes multiple diseases that influence its structure and operation. Such conditions may consist of coronary artery disease, which is characterized by the narrowing or clotting of the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle, with the resulting threat of heart attacks. Heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), heart valve problems, congenital heart defects present at birth, and heart muscle disorders (cardiomyopathies) are other types of heart disease.

Insulin resistance and diabetes are associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) conditions, which are distinguished by metabolic dysfunction, oxidative stress and inflammation. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), a NAD-dependent deacetylase, is fundamental in regulating metabolic pathways, reducing inflammation, and improving antioxidant defenses. This is the first study to investigate the effects of SRT1720, a SIRT1 activator, in diabetic rats on a high-fat diet.

Deep Learning-Based Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio Applications.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Electronics and Communication Department, Faculty of Engineering, Delta University for Science and Technology, Gamasa 35511, Egypt.

In order for cognitive radios to identify and take advantage of unused frequency bands, spectrum sensing is essential. Conventional techniques for spectrum sensing rely on extracting features from received signals at specific locations. However, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs) have recently demonstrated promise in improving the precision and efficacy of spectrum sensing.

Patients with diabetes polyneuropathy are at a heightened risk for developing foot ulcers, often due to dynamic plantar foot pressure patterns that lead to increased pressure and shear forces in specific foot areas. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of foot insoles on peak pressure and the pressure-time integral in patients with polyneuropathy diabetic foot ulcers over a twelve-week period followed by an eight-week follow up. : This was a prospective, randomized, double-blinded, controlled clinical trial involving 60 patients aged between 50 and 65 years of both genders.

Background: UpToDate, no drugs have been approved to treat nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, the advanced stage of the most prevalent liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The present study was conducted to explore the potential influences of L-carnitine on the pathomechanisms of hepatic injury that mediate progression to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in dexamethasone-toxified rats.

Methods: Male Wistar rats were allocated as follows: dexamethasone group, rats received dexamethasone (8 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally) for 6 days; DEXA-LCAR300, DEXA-LCAR500, and DEXA-MET groups, rats administered L-carnitine (300 or 500 mg/kg/day, IP) or metformin (500 mg/kg/day, orally) one week prior to dexamethasone injection (8 mg/kg/day, IP) and other six days alongside dexamethasone administration.

Chronic wounds in diabetic patients experience significant clinical challenges due to compromised healing processes. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) is a critical regulator in the cellular response to hypoxia, enhancing angiogenesis and tissue restoration. Nevertheless, the cellular response to the developed chronic hypoxia within diabetes is impaired, likely due to the destabilization of HIF-1α via degradation by prolyl hydroxylase domain (PHD) enzymes.

Microbial enzymes as powerful natural anti-biofilm candidates.

Microb Cell Fact

December 2024

Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Delta University for Science and Technology, International Coastal Road, Gamasa, 11152, Egypt.

Bacterial biofilms pose significant challenges, from healthcare-associated infections to biofouling in industrial systems, resulting in significant health impacts and financial losses globally. Classic antimicrobial methods often fail to eradicate sessile microbial communities within biofilms, requiring innovative approaches. This review explores the structure, formation, and role of biofilms, highlighting the critical importance of exopolysaccharides in biofilm stability and resistance mechanisms.

A cost-effective IoT-based real-time data acquisition and analysis hardware system was developed to enhance the performance of the mobile harbor cranes using a combination of a cost-effective quality control monitoring sensor dashboard (proximity sensors, angle position sensor, weight sensor, vibration sensor, and wind sensor), embedded microcontroller (Arduino), and embedded computer (Raspberry Pi). Hardware was operated using a specially developed novel Quality Control and Data Acquisition Multiprocessing software (QC-DAS). The QC-DAS can automatically collect and save real-time data of the sensors in a large-capacity SD card, monitor the state of health of the hardware, and transmit the real-time data of the sensors and the working state of the crane to an IoT server.
