Protease allergens are known to enhance allergic inflammation but their exact role in initiation of allergic reactions at mucosal surfaces still remains elusive. This study was aimed at deciphering the role of serine protease activity of Per a 10, a major cockroach allergen in initiation of allergic inflammation at mucosal surfaces. We demonstrate that Per a 10 increases epithelial permeability by disruption of tight junction proteins, ZO-1 and occludin, and enhances the migration of Monocyte derived dendritic cell precursors towards epithelial layer as exhibited by trans-well studies.

Biofilm forming bacteria play a vital role in causing infectious diseases and for enhancing the efficiency of the bioremediation process through immobilization. Different media and conditions have been reported for detecting biofilm forming bacteria, however, they are not quite rapid. Here, we propose the use of a simple medium which can be used for detecting biofilm former, and also provide a mechanism to regulate the expression of biofilm formation process.

Purpose: Exposure to radiation causes severe alterations of protein expression level inside the cell, thus it may influence the biological events and stress response. In the present investigation, we have demonstrated the effect of radiation on mice lung tissues.
Materials And Methods: Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) coupled with MALDI-TOF/TOF was used to check the expression changes in lung proteome profile of strain 'A' female mice after exposure to lethal doses of gamma irradiation at different time periods (24 and 48 h).

The biodiesel industry has the potential to meet the fuel requirements in the future. Bacteria possessing multiple copies of 16S rRNA (rrs) gene demonstrate high intragenomic heterogeneity. It hinders clear distinction at species level and even leads to overestimation of the bacterial diversity. Fifty completely sequenced genomes belonging to 19 species of Lactobacillus species were found to possess 4-9 copies of rrs each.

Proteases affect immune response by activating PI3K, ERK1/2 and p38 kinase. The use of rrs (16S rRNA) gene is widely regarded as the "gold standard" for identifying bacteria and determining their phylogenetic relationships. Nevertheless, multiple copies of this gene in a genome is likely to give an overestimation of the bacterial diversity. In each of the 50 Streptococcus genomes (16 species, 50 strains), 4-7 copies of rrs are present.

The main aim of the current study is to compare the physicochemical properties, cytotoxicity and gene-transfer ability of electrostatically and covalently linked nanocomposites of polyethylenimine (PEI) and polyacrylic acid (PAA) on mammalian cells. Two series of nanocomposites, ionic PEI-PAA (iPP) and covalent PEI-PAA (cPP), were synthesized by varying the amounts of polyacrylic acid (PAA). Physicochemical characterization revealed that iPP nanopcomposites were of bigger sized than cPP nanocomposites with zeta potential almost comparable.

The clinical success of the applicability of tea polyphenols awaits efficient systemic delivery and bioavailability. Herein, following the concept of nanochemoprevention, which uses nanotechnology for enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs, we employed tea polyphenols, namely theaflavin (TF) and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) encapsulated in a biodegradable nanoparticulate formulation based on poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) with approximately 26% and 18% encapsulation efficiency, respectively. It was observed that TF/EGCG encapsulated PLGA nanoparticles (NPs) offered an up to ~7-fold dose advantage when compared with bulk TF/EGCG in terms of exerting its antiproliferative effects and also enhanced the anticancer potential of cisplatin (CDDP) in A549 (lung carcinoma), HeLa (cervical carcinoma), and THP-1 (acute monocytic leukemia) cells.
