: Insufficient connective urethra and bladder support related to childbirth and menopausal estrogen decrease leads to stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The aim of this review is to narratively report the efficacy and safety of new mini-invasive solutions for SUI treatment as laser energy devices, in particular, the microablative fractional carbon dioxide laser and the non-ablative Erbium-YAG laser. For this narrative review, a search of literature from PubMed and EMBASE was performed to evaluate the relevant studies and was limited to English language articles, published from January 2015 to February 2022.

The pelvitrainer for training in laparoscopic surgery - A prospective, multicenter, interdisciplinary study: Experimental research.

May 2022

Kiel School of Gynaecological Endoscopy, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Hospitals Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Kiel, Arnold-Heller-Str. 3 (House C), 24105, Kiel, Germany. Electronic address:

Background: Minimally invasive surgical procedures have a flat learning curve, especially in the initial period of a surgeon's training. Pelvitrainers enable the prospective surgeon to drill the surgical technique, including camera navigation, instrument manipulation, and the individual steps of the operation, on a model rather than a patient. Integrating the pelvitrainer into standardized surgical training programs is challenging, but would be essential to achieve optimum effects of long duration in surgical education.

Vaginal approach remains one of the safest and easiest surgical procedures to treat many gynaecological pathologies such as cervico-vaginal fibroids or vaginal septum. These classical procedures are, however, hindered by the disruption of the integrity of the hymen, an issue that remains controversial if not unfavourable in certain conservative geographical areas such as the Middle East. Herein, we describe 3 alternative surgical laparoscopic techniques to deal with the issue of hymen conservation.

The stem cell marker and RNA-binding protein Musashi-1 is overexpressed in endometriosis. Musashi-1-siRNA knockdown in Ishikawa cells altered the expression of stem cell related genes, such as OCT-4. To investigate the role of both human Musashi homologues (MSI-1 and MSI-2) in the pathogenesis of endometriosis, immortalized endometriotic 12-Z cells and primary endometriotic stroma cells were treated with Musashi-1- and Musashi-2-siRNA.

Article Synopsis
  • * It reveals that while morcellation doesn't significantly affect overall survival rates compared to non-morcellation, certain preoperative characteristics like tumor size and vascularization can indicate a higher risk of sarcoma.
  • * The findings suggest that morcellation may increase the risk of recurrence for abdominal and pelvic tumors, emphasizing the need for better preoperative assessment to differentiate between sarcoma and other conditions like uterine myoma.

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) plays a key role in many physiological processes, exerting anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, detoxifying, and insulin sensitizing activities. Since ALA improves insulin resistance (IR), it has been suggested that ALA could be beneficial it in the treatment of PCOS. The natural polyol myo-Inositol (myo-Ins) and its isomers (D-Chiro-Inositol, D-Chiro-Ins) has proven to improve PCOS features and clinical outcome, according to a compelling body of available studies.

Asthma is the most common chronic non-communicable disease in children, the pathogenesis of which involves several factors. The increasing burden of asthma worldwide has emphasized the need to identify the modifiable factors associated with the development of the disease. Recent research has focused on the relationship between dietary factors during the first 1000 days of life (including pregnancy)-when the immune system is particularly vulnerable to exogenous interferences-and allergic outcomes in children.

Menopause and female sexual dysfunctions.

Minerva Obstet Gynecol

June 2022

Research Center for Reproductive Medicine, Gynecological Endocrinology and Menopause, IRCCS S. Matteo Foundation, Pavia, Italy.

Biological and psycho-relational factors contribute equally to the development of sexual symptoms and associated distress, a key element to diagnose female sexual dysfunctions (FSDs) in menopausal women. Consultation at midlife represents an optimal time to discuss sexual life, and healthcare providers have to be proactive in rising the conversation, as patients may not report their sexual concerns spontaneously. An accurate sexual history is essential to characterize the primary symptom, determine the impact on patient's quality of life and identify risk and precipitating factors.
