Modern construction is largely dependent on steel and concrete, with natural materials such as earth being significantly underutilised. Despite its sustainability and accessibility, earth is not being used to its full potential in developed countries. This study explores innovative building materials using Alhambra Formation soil (Granada, Spain) reinforced with difficult-to-recycle agricultural waste: polypropylene fibres contaminated with organic matter and leachates.

Mutualisms characterized by reciprocal benefits between species are a fundamental relationship of tropical ecosystems. Ant Gardens (AGs) represent an interesting ant-plant mutualism, involving specialized interactions between vascular epiphytes and ants. While this relationship has been extensively studied in various tropical regions, the available information on Peruvian ecosystems is limited.

The parasitoid wasp (Howard) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) has the potential for biological control against insect pests in stored grains, mainly of the orders Coleoptera and Lepidoptera. microRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA fragments of importance in the regulation of gene translation in most physiological processes, and the study of miRNAs in wasps can be useful for understanding the physiology of these insects. The objective of this study was to evaluate for the first time the miRNomic profile of and to determine its conservation in five species of the order Hymenoptera (, , , and ).

In the search for effective strategies to control the Colorado Potato Beetle, RNA interference technology has emerged as a promising method due to its capacity to suppress genes selectively. Factors such as the target gene and double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) length are critical for optimizing gene silencing efficiency. In this study, we designed and synthesized in vitro dsRNAs of varying lengths targeting the gene, which encodes the AChE1 isoform of acetylcholinesterase in the beetle.

The future of control emphasizes the transition from traditional insecticides toward more sustainable and multisectoral integrated strategies, like using -carrying mosquitoes for population suppression or replacement. We reviewed the integration of the successful Mexican initiative, "Mosquitos Buenos", with the key challenges outlined in the PAHO guidelines for incorporating innovative approaches into vector control programs. These challenges include establishing essential infrastructure, training personnel, managing field operations, and fostering community support.

Background: Mating disruption (MD) is a worthwhile technique for the control of and in central Europe and Mediterranean areas. MD efficacy is affected by the pheromone release (PR), which in turn is influenced by environmental conditions.
Methods: The effect of weather conditions on PR was evaluated under four different fields in northern Italy.

Targeted therapy indications for actionable variants in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have primarily been studied in Caucasian populations, with limited data on Latin American patients. This study utilized a 52-genes next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel to analyze 1560 tumor biopsies from NSCLC patients in Chile, Brazil, and Peru. The RNA sequencing reads and DNA coverage were correlated to improve the detection of the actionable exon 14 skipping variant (METex14).

This study examined the response to cisplatin in BxPC-3, Mia-Paca-2, PANC-1, and YAPC pancreatic cancer lines with different genotypic and phenotypic characteristics, and the mechanisms associated with their resistance. BxPC-3 and MIA-PaCa-2 cell lines were the most sensitive to cisplatin, while YAPC and PANC-1 were more resistant. Consistently, in cisplatin-treated BxPC-3 cells, the cleavage patterns of pro-caspase-9, -7, -3, and PARP-1 demonstrated that they were more sensitive than YAPC cells.

Sucralose, a commonly nonnutritive sweetener used in daily products of habitual diet, is related to impairing the gut microbiome by disrupting inflammatory response, promoting weight gain by increasing adipose tissue and promoting chronic inflammatory processes. Considering the impact of sucralose in the development of metabolic diseases, in this work, we focused on the impact of sucralose on the adipocyte differentiation process to determine if sucralose can promote adipogenesis and increase adipose tissue depots in PCS 210 010 human preadipocytes cell line. Sucralose at 25 (S25) and 100 ng/µL (S100) concentrations were tested against control with no edulcorant (NS) during the adipocyte differentiation process at 48 h and 96 h.

Pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) is the most accurate procedure for lymph node (LN) staging in prostate cancer (PCa) patients. LN sectioning and hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining of at least one slice remains the gold standard for LN evaluation, potentially leading to misdetection of small metastatic focus. Entire LN analysis is possible with One-Step Nucleic Acid Amplification (OSNA) by detecting cytokeratin 19 (CK19) mRNA as a surrogate for LN invasion.

Disaccharide trehalose has been proven in many cases to be particularly effective in preserving the functional and structural integrity of biological macromolecules. In this work, we studied its effect on the electron transfer reactions that occur in the chromatophores of the photosynthetic bacterium . In the presence of a high concentration of trehalose, following the activation of the photochemistry by flashes of light, a slowdown of the electrogenic reactions related to the activity of the photosynthetic reaction center and cytochtome (cyt) complexes is observable.

Many clinical, neuroimaging, neuropathological, epidemiological, and genetic data suggest a relationship between essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson's disease (PD). Several hypothesis-based gene association studies attempted to find a genetic association between these diseases. Recent case-control association studies in Chinese and Spanish populations showed a marginal association between the rs1922452 and rs951818 single nucleotide variants (SNVs) and the risk of PD.

Laminopathies represent a wide range of genetic disorders caused by mutations in gene-encoding proteins of the nuclear lamina. Altered nuclear mechanics have been associated with laminopathies, given the key role of nuclear lamins as mechanosensitive proteins involved in the mechanotransduction process. To shed light on the nuclear partners cooperating with altered lamins, we focused on Src tyrosine kinase, known to phosphorylate proteins of the nuclear lamina.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) development is a gradual process in which progressive histological alterations of the intestinal mucosa damage occur over years. This process can be influenced by modifiable external factors such as lifestyle and diet. Most CRC cases (>80%) originate from conventional adenomas through the adenomatous pathway and usually harbour dysplastic cells, whereas the serrated pathway is less frequent (<20% cases) and comprises hyperplastic polyps and other polyps containing dysplastic cells.

: Uric acid (UA) and the markers of mineral bone metabolism and inflammation are commonly altered in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and are associated with the risk of cardiovascular complications and death. Studies point to a link between high serum UA and mineral bone homeostasis and inflammation, but controversy remains. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between UA levels and mineral bone metabolism and inflammation biomarkers in a sample of Mexican patients with CKD 3a-5.

This comprehensive review examines the ocular vascular complications of cocaine use, focusing on its effects on retinal vasculature and inflammation. A rare case of bilateral frosted branch angiitis (FBA) in a 48-year-old man with a history of intranasal cocaine abuse is presented as an illustrative example to stimulate discussion. The case highlights severe retinal ischemia and vascular sheathing, with no identifiable infectious or autoimmune cause, ultimately complicated by systemic vascular events.
