Aims: The optimal management of older patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains unclear. The most effective evaluation methods for frailty and malnutrition are yet to be delineated, despite being proposed as predictors of adverse outcomes. Consequently, this study aims to assess the significance of these factors in predicting in-hospital complications within this population.

Chromosomes 5 and 7 are large chromosomes that contain close to 1,000 genes each. Deletions of the long arms or loss of the entire chromosome (monosomy) are common defects in myeloid disorders, particularly MDS and AML. Loss of material from either chromosome 5 or 7 results in haploinsufficiency of multiple genes, with some implicated in leukemogenesis.

Animal translocations provide striking examples of the human footprint on biodiversity. Combining continental-wide genomic and DNA-barcoding analyses, we reconstructed the historical biogeography of the Asian black-spined toad (Duttaphrynus melanostictus), a toxic commensal amphibian that currently threatens two biodiversity hotspots through biological invasions (Wallacea and Madagascar). The results emphasize a complex diversification shaped by speciation and mitochondrial introgression that comprises two distinct species.

Impact on Distance and Near Contrast Sensitivity of Multifocal Contact Lenses: A Systematic Review.

Purpose: To investigate the impact on distance and near contrast sensitivity (CS) after fitting multifocal contact lenses (MFCLs) for presbyopia correction according to the scientific evidence already published.

Methods: Three bibliographic search was conducted on PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Scopus. Inclusion criteria were articles written in English evaluating distance and/or near CS in presbyopic patients using MFCLs, controlled clinical trials, and articles published from 2000 to 2024.

Persistent elite controllers as the key model to identify permanent HIV remission.

Purpose Of Review: To summarize the heterogeneity in the elite controllers population with the aim to identify a compatible profile with a persistent HIV remission, making distinction between persistent elite controllers, people with HIV (PWHIV) who permanently maintain virological control in the absence of antiretroviral treatment (ART), and transient elite controllers, PWHIV who eventually lose virological control. For this purpose, it is important to consider the mechanisms and biomarkers that have previously been associated with the maintenance and loss of the natural virological control.

Methods: Utilizing data from the National Demographic and Health Survey of Peru from 2014 to 2022, we conducted an interrupted time series analysis. The proportion of past-year HIV testing per quarter of each year was considered our unit of analysis.

Background: In children with type 1 diabetes (T1D), diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) triggers a significant inflammatory response; however, the specific effector proteins and signaling pathways involved remain largely unexplored.
