An epidemiological analysis of severe imported malaria infections in Sri Lanka, after malaria elimination.

Background: Imported malaria continues to be reported in Sri Lanka after it was eliminated in 2012, and a few progress to life-threatening severe malaria.

Methods: Data on imported malaria cases reported in Sri Lanka from 2013 to 2023 were extracted from the national malaria database maintained by the Anti Malaria Campaign (AMC) of Sri Lanka. Case data of severe malaria as defined by the World Health Organization were analysed with regard to patients' general characteristics and their health-seeking behaviour, and the latter compared with that of uncomplicated malaria patients.

These properties depend on the structure and mechanism of the material. In this overview, the classification of magnetic materials with different structures is examined in several material groups, including the following: (1) perovskite structure (ABO), (2) alloy, (3) spinel structure, and (4) Kagome magnet.

Excessive occupational exposure to noise results in a well-recognized occupational hearing loss which is prevalent in many workplaces and now it is taken as a global problem. Therefore, this study aims to assess the prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss and associated factors among workers in the Bishoftu Central Air Base in Ethiopia. An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 260 central air base workers through face-to-face interviews, an environment noise survey, and an audiometric test for data collection.

Background: Ivermectin is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic used to control onchocerciasis from nematode parasites. As an anthelmintic, ivermectin is designed to have high levels in the gastrointestinal tract, so that the systemic intake is relatively low. Due to the very small concentration of ivermectin, a selective and sensitive approach is needed for the analysis of ivermectin in blood.

Charge density waves (CDWs) involved with electronic and phononic subsystems simultaneously are a common quantum state in solid-state physics, especially in low-dimensional materials. However, CDW phase dynamics in various dimensions are yet to be studied, and their phase transition mechanism is currently moot. Here we show that using the distinct temperature evolution of orientation-dependent ultrafast electron and phonon dynamics, different dimensional CDW phases are verified in CuTe.
