Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is sexually transmitted and commonly widespread in the head and neck region; however, its role in tumor development and prognosis has only been demonstrated for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPV-OPSCC). The aim of this review is to analyze the results of the most recent literature that has investigated the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a method for discerning HPV-positive from HPV-negative OPSCC tumors. A review of the literature was performed using PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases, according to PRISMA for scoping review criteria (from 2017 to July 2024).

In this study, we aimed to identify risk factors that predict the postoperative need for advanced or prolonged airway management in patients with severe odontogenic deep neck infections (DNIs). This retrospective case-control study included patients of both sexes aged ≥ 18 years who had undergone surgical drainage including debridement of necrotic tissues of odontogenic deep neck abscesses and necrotizing soft tissue infection under general anesthesia between April 2016 and September 2023 at a single center. The patients' characteristics, laboratory tests, and computed tomography (CT) findings were analyzed and compared between the difficult postoperative airway group, which required prolonged intubation or tracheostomy, and the short-term intubation group.

Emergency neuroradiology provides rapid diagnostic decision-making and guidance for management for a wide range of acute conditions involving the brain, head and neck, and spine. This narrative review aims at providing an up-to-date discussion about the state of the art of applications of artificial intelligence in emergency neuroradiology, which have substantially expanded in depth and scope in the past few years. A detailed analysis of machine learning and deep learning algorithms in several tasks related to acute ischemic stroke involving various imaging modalities, including a description of existing commercial products, is provided.

Isolated sphenoid fungal sinusitis (ISFS) is a rare condition characterized by fungal infection of the sphenoid sinus. It often presents with non-specific symptoms, which can lead to misdiagnosis. This study presents two unique cases of ISFS with mucocele that were initially misdiagnosed as chordoma based on preoperative radiographic findings.

The rising incidence of head and neck cancer represents a serious global health challenge, requiring more accurate diagnosis and innovative surgical approaches. Multimodal nonlinear optical microscopy, combining coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS), two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF), and second-harmonic generation (SHG) with deep learning-based analysis routines, offers label-free assessment of the tissue's morphochemical composition and allows early-stage and automatic detection of disease. For clinical intraoperative application, compact devices are required.

Background: Deep neck infections (DNIs) in the cervical fascial planes can cause severe complications such as airway obstruction, mediastinitis, and sepsis.
Aims/objectives: This study examines cervical abscess development, its relationship with postoperative swallowing function, and hospital stay duration.
Material And Methods: A retrospective case series of 55 DNI patients was divided by hospital stay (<30 days: Group A, ≥30 days: Group B) and swallowing recovery (<6 days: Group C, ≥6 days: Group D).

Background: Although the direct anterior approach (DAA) represents an intermuscular and internervous approach to total hip arthroplasty (THA), it did not reach global acceptance until its adoption by large teaching centers. Today, >50% of primary THA procedures in Switzerland are performed via the DAA. Besides being truly minimally invasive, a key advantage of the DAA is the inherent stability that it provides.

Where tuberculous (TB) infection is prevalent, the diagnosis of TB otomastoiditis (TOM) should be considered in a chronically discharging ear that does not respond to standard medical treatment. We are reporting a case of TB otomastoiditis with an adjacent deep neck abscess in a healthy 18-year-old male. He presented with a five five-month history of right otorrhea with hearing loss and a concurrent right level two neck swelling, without any signs of acute infection.

Introduction And Importance: Canal of Nuck hydrocele is a rare condition in females. Due to mild symptoms, it may be neglected, leading to complications, including infection and bleeding. The rarity of this condition, coupled with its potential for adverse outcomes, necessitates a high index of suspicion among treating surgeons to diagnose and promptly manage the case.
