Background: In causal analyses, some third factor may distort the relationship between the exposure and the outcome variables under study, which gives spurious results. In this case, treatment groups and control groups that receive and do not receive the exposure are different from one another in some other essential variables, called confounders.
Method: Place of birth was used as exposure variable and age-specific childhood vaccination status was used as outcome variables.

The controlled synthesis of Ag/Au nanocomposite particles has remained a significant challenge in nanomaterial research. This study presents the synthesis, characterization, and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance of silver (Ag) and gold (Au) nanostar composites. The structural and plasmonic properties of these nanocomposites were optimized by varying the molar ratios of silver nanostars (AgNSs) and gold nanostars (AuNSs).

Background: The occurrence of potential drug‒drug interactions (pDDIs) is a serious global issue that affects all age groups, with the elderly population being the most vulnerable. This is due to their relatively high rates of comorbidity and polypharmacy, as well as physiological changes that can increase the potential for DDIs and the likelihood of adverse drug reactions. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of pDDIs and associated factors among elderly patients in Ethiopia.

Background: The analgesic effectiveness of a single perioperative dose of dexamethasone is not clearly defined. The administration of systemic medication like dexamethasone, opioids, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs has a positive effect on the prolongation of postoperative analgesia after cesarean section under spinal anesthesia. A single-dose administration of dexamethasone with moderate to high dose reduces postoperative pain, reduces opioid consumption, and prolongs spinal anesthesia after cesarean delivery.

The colonization of freshwater lakes by invasive alien species is increasingly alarming primarily owing to nutrient loads from the watersheds. For the sustainable management of invasive weeds, preventive methods, such as watershed management and sustainable agricultural practices, are recommended. Watershed protection activities by the upstream local community are believed to be effective measures to reduce nutrient loading to the receiving water bodies and hence help prevent the spread of water hyacinth.
