Frozen shoulder is a common debilitating disorder characterized by shoulder pain and progressive loss of shoulder movement. Frozen shoulder is frequently associated with other systemic conditions or occurs following periods of immobilization, and has a protracted clinical course, which can be frustrating for patients as well as health-care professionals. Frozen shoulder is characterized by fibroproliferative tissue fibrosis, whereby fibroblasts, producing predominantly type I and type III collagen, transform into myofibroblasts (a smooth muscle phenotype), which is accompanied by inflammation, neoangiogenesis and neoinnervation, resulting in shoulder capsular fibrotic contractures and the associated clinical stiffness.

Managing epilepsy in the elderly remains complicated largely due to factors related to aging. In this population, management practices are increasingly shifting towards the use of newer-generation anti-seizure medications (ASMs) as they are generally associated with better tolerability and safety profiles than older ones. Perampanel is a new ASM with broad-spectrum efficacy and a favorable safety profile.

It has been 10 years since peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) was reported for the first time, and POEM has currently become the standard treatment for achalasia and related disorders globally because it is less invasive and has a higher curative effect than conventional therapeutic methods. However, there are limited studies comparing the long-term outcomes of POEM with those of conventional therapeutic methods, particularly in the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) after therapy. With this background, we held a consensus meeting to discuss the pathophysiology and management of GERD after POEM based on published papers and experiences of each expert and to discuss the prevention of GERD and dealing with anti-acid drug refractory GERD.

Objectives: Hospitalisation for congestive heart failure (CHF) was reported to be 1648 cases for every 100 000 patient claims in 2014 in the Philippines; however, there are no data regarding its economic impact. This study determined CHF hospitalisation cost and its total economic burden. It compared the healthcare-related hospitalisation cost from the societal perspective with the payer's perspective, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

Since Dr Dargent first reported endoscopic surgery using retroperitoneal pelvicoscopy to perform pelvic lymph node sampling in 1987, many literature reviews on the safety and feasibility of laparoscopic staging surgery of gynecologic malignancies have been published. However, the procedure of laparoscopic lymphadenectomy is more difficult to perform due to the limited surgical space and associated technical problems. Especially in the para-aortic lymphadenectomy procedure, there are many barriers to overcome in the surgical field, learning curve, and technique.

Aim: By investigating the association of urodynamics and urogenital nerve growth factor (NGF) levels in vaginal mesh surgery, we may be able to associate the likelihood of postoperative lower urinary tract symptoms developing as a result of synthetic mesh implanted for pelvic floor reconstructive surgery.
Methods: Thirty-eight female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups: mesh, sham (no mesh), and control. Urodynamic study and NGF analysis of the urogenital tissues were done and results were compared among all groups.

Objective: To evaluate the sonologic and clinical outcome of collagen coated (CC) versus non-collagen coated (NC) anterior vaginal mesh (AVM) for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery.
Study Design: The study is a prospective observational study which included 122 patients who had symptomatic POP stage III and IV. AvaultaPlus™ (collagen coated, CC group) was compared to Perigee™ (non collagen coated, NC group).
Objective: In patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), morning stiffness is linked more to functional disability and pain than disease activity, as assessed by joint counts and markers of inflammation. As part of the Asia Pacific Morning Stiffness in Rheumatoid Arthritis Expert Panel, a group of eight rheumatologists met to formulate consensus points and develop recommendations for the assessment and management of morning stiffness in RA.
Methods: On the basis of a systematic literature review and expert opinion, a panel of Asian rheumatologists formulated recommendations for the assessment and medical treatment of RA.
