Brain tumors can have far-reaching impacts on functional networks. Language processing is typically lateralized to the left hemisphere, but also involves the right hemisphere and cerebellum. This resting-state functional MRI study investigated the proximal and distal effects of left-hemispheric brain tumors on language network connectivity in the ipsilesional and contralesional hemispheres.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study involving 926 pregnant women revealed that 9.9% had severe COVID-19, with risk factors including pulmonary issues, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • * Severe maternal illness was linked to higher rates of cesarean sections, preterm deliveries, and neonatal admissions to intensive care units.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated a computerized Relational Agent designed to deliver alcohol screening, brief interventions, and referrals, comparing its effectiveness with standard treatment practices in primary care for veterans.
  • 178 veterans participated, with some receiving standard care (TAU) and others receiving the Relational Agent along with TAU, assessed at baseline and 3 months later.
  • While both groups reduced drinking, those using the Relational Agent showed greater improvements in addressing negative alcohol consequences and had higher rates of receiving brief interventions and referrals to specialized care.

Basal-like breast cancer with low TGFβ and high TNFα pathway activity is rich in activated memory CD4 T cells and has a good prognosis.

Division of Cancer Research and Training, Department of Internal Medicine, Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine and UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Los Angeles, CA 90095, USA.

Basal-like breast cancer (BLBC) is a type of high-grade invasive breast cancer with high risk of recurrence, metastases, and poor survival. Immune activation in BLBC is a key factor that influences both cancer progression and therapeutic response, although its molecular mechanisms are not well clarified. In this study, we examined five cancer immunity-related pathways (IFNα, IFNγ, STAT3, TGFβ and TNFα) in four large independent breast cancer cohorts ( = 6,381) and their associations with the prognosis of breast cancer subtypes.

Electronic address:

Background: The clinical and scientific value of Prechtl general movement assessment (GMA) has been increasingly recognised, which has extended beyond the detection of cerebral palsy throughout the years. With advancing computer science, a surging interest in developing automated GMA emerges.

Aims: In this scoping review, we focused on video-based approaches, since it remains authentic to the non-intrusive principle of the classic GMA.

Aspiration is a safety maneuver prior to filler injection in widespread use throughout the world, despite an absence of scientific evidence to its efficacy. This editorial questions the practice from a logical as well as a scientific point of view.

The abnormal PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway is one of the most common genomic abnormalities in breast cancers including triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), and pharmacologic inhibition of these aberrations has shown activity in TNBC patients. Here, we designed and identified a small-molecule Comp34 that suppresses both AKT and mTOR protein expression and exhibits robust cytotoxicity towards TNBC cells but not nontumorigenic normal breast epithelial cells. Mechanically, long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) AL354740.

The lengthy debate on the validity of the amyloid hypothesis and the usefulness of amyloid imaging and anti-amyloid therapeutic interventions in dementia continues unabated, even though none of them have been able to convince the medical world of their correctness and clinical value. There are huge financial interests associated with promoting both, but in spite of the large sums of money in their support, no effective anti-amyloid treatments or diagnostic use of amyloid imaging have emerged. There are solid scientific reasons that explain these negative results, and it is time to move forward to other promising options for the benefit of the patients.

Unlabelled: Telehealth platforms with remote phlebotomy and biomarker implementation represent a novel paradigm for surveillance after lung transplantation (LT). In a pilot study, we investigated donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) in plasma using a clinical-grade "next-generation sequencing" assay.

Methods: dd-cfDNA levels determined in biorepository venous plasma samples obtained during the lung allograft rejection gene expression observation study, implementing a clinical-grade next-generation sequencing assay.

Background: Chronic renal dysfunction (CRD), as predominantly related to calcineurin-inhibitor (CNI) nephrotoxicity, is associated with increased morbidity and mortality after lung transplantation (LTx). Basiliximab (BSX), a recombinant chimeric monoclonal antibody against CD25 on activated T-lymphocytes, although often employed as an "induction immunosuppression" after solid organ transplantation, may further allow for reduction in CNI exposure with monthly administration and amelioration of CRD.

Objective: To determine the effect of monthly anti-CD25 treatment with basiliximab on the progression of chronic renal dysfunction after lung transplantation.

COVID-19 has impacted how we deliver care to patients, and much remains unknown regarding optimal management of respiratory failure in this patient population. There are significant controversies regarding tracheostomy in patients with COVID-19 related to timing, location of procedure, and technique. In this narrative review, we explore the recent literature, publicly available guidelines, protocols from different institutions, and clinical reports to provide critical insights on how to deliver the most benefit to our patients while safeguarding the health care force.

Introduction: Epilepsy mortality rates are rising. It is unknown whether rates are rising due to an increase in epilepsy prevalence, changes in epilepsy causes of death, increase in the lethality or epilepsy or failures of treatment. To address these questions, we compare epilepsy mortality rates in the USA with all-cause and all-neurological mortality for the years 1999 to 2017.
